Art Journal with the Moon: Themes and Prompts for January 6-12, 2025

In this post, I share a summary of the moon for the week of January 6-12, 2025 as it moves through the zodiac and interacts with the planets. I also share how to work with the upcoming full moon in Cancer in your art journal to do your deep emotional healing work, practice cord cutting magic and for my fellow highly sensitive entrepreneurs, how to work with the full moon in Cancer in your art journal to nurture your audience.

The Moon This Week

This week, we’re in the waxing moon phases as we move towards the full moon in Cancer which happens on Monday, January 13, 2025 in the mountain time zone. In this post, I’m going to share the details of the full moon to help you prepare for it then show you how to work with it in your art journal to do your deep emotional healing healing work, practice some powerful cord cutting magic and for my fellow highly sensitive entrepreneurs, how to work with it in your art journal to nurture your audience.

The Tone and Mood of the Full Moon in Cancer

The full moon in Cancer is emotional and nurturing, especially for those of us who are highly sensitive. Cancer is the sign ruled by the moon itself, so this full moon feels extra powerful and happy here. Its energy shines a light on everything connected to emotions, family, and what makes us feel safe and secure. It’s like a warm hug from the universe, encouraging you to take a moment to slow down, tune into your feelings, and reconnect with your inner world.

When the full moon is in the sign of Cancer, it’s a good time to think about themes like family, your home, and your sense of belonging. It’s a time to reflect on the things that make you feel cared for and supported, as well as the ways you nurture yourself and others. You might find yourself reminiscing about the past, thinking about childhood memories, or even feeling more aware of the emotional patterns you learned early in life—whether they made you feel safe or left you feeling insecure.

This energy is perfect for healing those tender places, especially wounds from your family dynamics or childhood experiences.

The full moon in Cancer is also wonderful for emotional release. If you’ve been holding onto old hurts, this is a time to gently let them go. You might notice emotions rising to the surface, and that’s okay. The moon’s light helps illuminate your feelings so you can process and heal them. It’s a time to be kind to yourself and create a sense of safety in your life, whether that’s through comforting food, connecting with loved ones, or spending time in a cozy, nurturing space.

Typically, the energy of the full moon in Cancer is soft, sensitive, and deeply healing. It’s here to help you reconnect with your emotional roots, honor your past, and begin to build a future that feels safe, secure, and filled with love.

How Mars Affects the Tone and Mood of this Full Moon

This full moon has a lot of Mars energy connected to it which amplifies things a bit.

To understand how Mars is influencing this full moon, it’s important to first consider the tone and mood Mars is in.

Mars is currently retrograde in the sign of Cancer and on Sunday, the day before the full moon, it’s having a happy relationship with the planet Neptune who is in Pisces (another water sign). This creates an emotional and intuitive energy that can feel a little overwhelming—especially if you’re a highly sensitive person.

During this time, you might notice an increased sensitivity to the emotions around you. It can feel like you’re flooded with emotional and energetic information, not just your own, but what you’re picking up from clients, loved ones, or even the world at large. You might find yourself asking, “Is this my feeling, or am I carrying something that isn’t mine?” It’s important to slow down and attune to your emotions. Take time to sort through what’s yours and what might belong to someone else.

This week, make sure you clear, cleanse, release and repeat…often!

Mars retrograde in Cancer asks you to slow down and care for yourself emotionally before making big decisions or taking action. Attune to your tender parts—your worries, fears, and needs—and give yourself the care you need first. Only then will you have the clarity to decide your next steps, whether it’s in your personal life or in your business.

Neptune in Pisces adds an awareness of suffering, both in yourself and in others. You may feel more compassion than usual, becoming more attuned to the struggles of your clients, loved ones, or even the collective energy of the world. As a caregiver or healer, this can be a beautiful opportunity to provide emotional support to those who need it most but it’s also a time to be mindful of your own boundaries. It’s easy to take on too much emotionally and energetically this week, so remember to care for yourself as you care for others.

For your business, this astrology might slow you down a bit or leave you feeling unclear about your direction. That’s okay.

Use this time to reflect, tune into your intuition, and take small, intentional steps rather than rushing forward.

The way Mars is feeling right now makes it less about productivity and more about connection—connecting with yourself, your clients, and the deeper emotions that drive your work. If you’re feeling messy or unsure, know that this energy will pass, and clarity will return. In the meantime, lean into your compassion and let your emotions guide you toward the care and support you and your clients need most.

Working with the Full Moon in Cancer in Your Art Journal to do Your Deep Emotional Healing Work

The full moon in Cancer is already deeply tender, bringing up emotions tied to family, safety, and memories, and Mars adds a sharper edge to this moon. You might feel a lot of hurt or anger rising to the surface, especially around uncomfortable memories or painful experiences from your past. This can be a powerful time to process those emotions, express them, and, most importantly, begin to heal – especially around the areas of your life ruled by the sign of Cancer in your birth chart.

With Mars in the mix, there’s a sense of urgency and action. You might feel short-tempered or reactive, with emotions spilling out impulsively. You could find yourself saying things in the heat of the moment or feeling the need to separate from something or someone that no longer serves you. This energy can bring emotional drama or sharpness to your personal relationships or in your interactions with clients, so it’s important to go gently with yourself and others. Recognize the intensity of what’s coming up and meet it with compassion. Sometimes, things need to come out so they can be released.

Mars reminds us that emotions need to be exposed and expressed.

This moon also invites you to get in touch with your shadowy side—the parts of you that might hold anger, sadness, or resentment that need your care and attention. It’s an opportunity to make a clean break from something you’ve been holding onto for too long, whether it’s a pattern, a memory, or even a relationship dynamic. While this process might feel tender or raw, it’s ultimately freeing. The energy of this full moon is here to help you cut away what isn’t serving you, creating space for healing and growth.

If you want to work with this moon in your art journal to do your deep emotional healing work, here are some prompts to explore in a creative and healing way:

What emotions or memories from my past are coming up right now, and how can I honor and release them?

What do I need to let go of to feel freer and lighter in my emotional life?

Where am I feeling tender or raw, and how can I offer myself the care and nurturing I need?

What do I need to say or express that I’ve been holding back?

How can I move forward with more emotional clarity and strength?

What does my shadow want me to understand or heal during this full moon?

Take your time with these prompts, and let your creativity guide you. You might draw, paint, or collage as you reflect, allowing the process to help you move through what’s rising to the surface. This full moon is intense, but it’s also deeply transformative.

Working with the Full Moon in Cancer in Your Art Journal to Practice Magic

The Full Moon in Cancer, with its strong Mars influence, is a powerful time to practice magic that focuses on cutting away something that no longer serves you. Cancer’s energy helps you connect to your past, your emotions, and the things that make you feel safe and secure, while the influence of Mars brings the courage and determination to let go of what you need to release. This combination makes it a perfect time to work on shedding old patterns, memories, habits, or ways of thinking that you’ve outgrown. By releasing these things, you create space for healing and new growth.

A Simple Art Ritual for Emotional Cord Cutting

To work with this energy in your art journal, start by setting up a quiet, sacred space where you feel safe and supported. Take a few deep breaths and reflect on what you want to release. Is it an old way of seeing yourself? A habit that’s holding you back? On old relationship you no longer need? A thought pattern or memory from the past?

Sometimes, we hold emotional ties or “cords” to past experiences, relationships, or patterns that no longer serve us. These cords can drain our energy or keep us tethered to pain or unhelpful dynamics. Emotional cord cutting is a way to release these connections gently and lovingly, allowing you to heal and move forward.

Under this Full Moon, let’s focus on a creative variation of a cord cutting ritual to release something from your past that’s been weighing on you. In your art journal, begin by drawing two figures or symbols on the page—one representing you and the other representing the person, memory, or pattern you’re releasing. Where you draw these figures on the page is important because, if you choose to do it this way, you’ll be cutting one half of the page away so you want the figure that represents YOU to be on the side of the paper that is closest to the spine of your art journal. Yes if you actually cut a page in your art journal, you’ll be left with only half a page when you’ve completed the entire ritual but it will be a powerful reminder of what you released and cut out of your life.

Between the two figures, draw a cord or connection. Reflect on this cord and what it represents. Why is it there? How has it shaped you? What will change when you release it?

When you’re ready, paint, draw, or collage a pair of scissors, a flame, or any other tool that feels symbolic of cutting the cord.

Then, visually sever the connection in your journal—this might mean physically cutting the page, drawing a bold line through the cord, or painting over it. As you do this, say, “With love and compassion, I release this connection. I free myself and move forward with peace.” Let yourself feel the tenderness and healing of this moment, knowing that you’re creating space for new energy to flow into your life.

This Full Moon in Cancer invites you to go deep, to honor your emotions, and to trust that letting go is an act of self-love. Through this ritual, you’re not just cutting away—you’re making room for your own growth, healing, and the beauty of what’s yet to come.

Working with the Full Moon in Cancer in Your Art Journal to Grow Your Business

The final full moon exercise I want to share is for my fellow highly sensitive entrepreneurs.

The Full Moon in Cancer is a wonderful opportunity to explore how you nurture your audience in your business. Cancer’s energy is all about care, connection, and creating a sense of safety and belonging—qualities that are deeply important to your work. When you take the time to reflect on how you nurture your audience, you not only deepen your connection with them but also create a strong foundation for growing your business in an authentic and meaningful way.

In your art journal, think about how your unique approach to nurturing shows up in your work.

Are you someone who loves to inspire and uplift?

Do you create a safe space for healing and transformation?

Do you offer practical tools or emotional support that help others feel cared for?

By the way, when you book a Business Alignment Session with me, we can go over what your birth chart says about who your spirit is here to serve and how it most likes nurturing and caring for others.

Understanding how you nurture your audience helps you clarify your strengths and gives you insights into how you can show up even more powerfully in your business.

Here are some prompts to explore in your art journal under this Full Moon in Cancer:

Who do I feel most called to nurture in my business? What kind of people light me up and inspire me to show up for them?

What are my favorite ways to nurture my audience? How do I help them feel cared for, supported, and understood?

What do I offer my audience that feels uniquely me, and how does it help them grow, heal, or transform?

How can I create a deeper sense of connection and belonging in my business?

What aspects of nurturing my audience come naturally to me, and what areas might I want to strengthen or do better?

How does nurturing my audience also nurture and grow my business?

As you work with these prompts, let your creativity guide you. Use colors, symbols, and imagery that feel nurturing to you. You might draw or collage images that represent how you care for your audience or write affirmations about the kind of relationships you want to build through your work.

This process helps you get clearer about who you most want to serve and the ways you naturally and effectively nurture them. When you align your nurturing energy with your audience’s needs, you create deeper trust and connection, which is essential for growing your business. This Full Moon is a chance to reflect, dream, and refine how you care for your audience, so your business can grow in a way that feels aligned, supportive, and meaningful for both you and the people you serve.

Whether you work with the full moon in Cancer to do your deep emotional healing work, do some powerful cord cutting or work with it to learn more about nurturing your audience, leave your art journal open to the page you created under the full moonlight, and trust that its energy will help you in whatever way you need it most.

Now let’s look at a more detailed summary of the moon’s energy this week, giving you an overview of what to expect as the moon moves through different signs and phases. Monday

The week kicks off with the moon in the sign of Aries on Monday which is good energy for leadership, new beginnings and making things happen. When the moon is in Aries, you’re being encouraged to take the lead in your own life, to make bold decisions, and to move forward with confidence.

Aries is ruled by the planet Mars so the moon is carrying a little of that planet’s energy as well. Aries energy in its most helpful form supports you in setting healthy boundaries, in knowing who you really are and feeling connected to your inner power. Aries is action, quick responses and impulses. It values action, leadership and assertiveness. When the moon is in the sign of Aries as it is today, it can bring abrupt energy that is blunt and harsh – maybe even sometimes aggressive but it also helps to light a spark in your spirit and connect you to your passion and enthusiasm. Think about what makes you light up.

What are you passionate about?

What makes you feel alive?

Have you been doing what makes you feel alive lately?

Tuesday

On Tuesday, the growing moon moves into the sign of Taurus and it’s having a happy relationship with Venus. The waxing phase of the moon supports growth and expansion, so this is the perfect moment to build momentum and take inspired steps toward your dreams.

What makes this energy even more beautiful is the moon’s happy relationship with Venus, who is currently in Pisces. Venus in Pisces brings a soft, loving, and compassionate energy. This combination encourages you to take action in a way that’s guided by your heart. It’s not just about pushing forward toward your dreams—it’s about doing so with kindness, creativity, and a focus on connection. The waxing moon helps you take the leap, while Venus in Pisces reminds you to stay attuned to what feels aligned and meaningful.

This is a wonderful time to pursue something that excites you, especially if it involves creativity, relationships, or projects that allow you to express yourself fully. The harmony between the waxing moon’s daring energy and Venus’ sweetness makes it easier to combine passion with compassion, action with intention. Whether you’re working on something for yourself, your relationships, or your business, this is a time to move forward while staying true to your values and what brings you joy.

In your art journal, create a page dedicated to what you want to manifest or grow. As you create, contemplate or write affirmations like, “I move forward guided by my heart.” Let your art be a magical container for your intentions.

For fellow highly sensitive entrepreneurs, use your art journal to brainstorm or map out a bold step you want to take in your business. Maybe it’s launching a new project, refining your offerings, or reaching out to your audience in a fresh way. Draw or collage symbols of success, like paths leading forward, open doors, or blooming flowers. Let the growing moon’s energy guide you to be decisive, and let Venus remind you to bring heart and creativity to everything you do in your business.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, the Taurus moon is a time to slow down, ground yourself, and focus on building something solid and lasting. Taurus energy is steady, calm, and deeply connected to the physical world, helping you feel secure and stable. With its happy relationship to Saturn, this moon emphasizes the importance of structure, discipline, and long-term planning. It’s a time to bring your dreams into the real world by taking steady, intentional steps. Saturn’s influence adds a sense of maturity and responsibility, encouraging you to lay strong foundations for whatever you’re working on.

This moon invites you to explore where you need more stability or security in your life. In your art journal, reflect on what makes you feel safe and supported. Use earthy tones like greens and browns, and create images or symbols that represent comfort and grounding. This is a beautiful time to connect with your body and focus on self-care as a form of healing.

For highly sensitive entrepreneurs, this moon is helpful for planning and organizing your business. Try using your art journal to map out practical steps toward your goals. You can create a visual representation of your long-term vision then write down small, achievable actions that will help you build your business in a way that feels grounded and will carry you into the future.

Thursday

With the waxing moon moving into the sign of Gemini, Thursday offers an opportunity to do a little divination work in your art journal.

In ancient astrology, the moon in Gemini carries a connection to Mercury, the fleet-footed messenger of the gods. Mercury had the unique ability to move between the worlds – from the realms of the divine to the earth and even to the underworld. This made him a bridge, a communicator between gods and humans, as well as between the living and the spirits of the departed. When the moon, symbolizing our emotions and intuition, is in Gemini, it illuminates this Mercurial theme of communication and connection across realms.

Emotionally, the moon in Gemini stirs a heightened desire to communicate, not just with the living but also with the unseen – our spirit allies and ancestors. Spiritually, this can be a good time to act as your own messenger, seeking guidance from those who have gone before you or spiritual entities that guide you. The energy allows messages to flow more easily, for intuition to be sharper, and for you to be more attuned to signs or symbols that the universe might offer.

To harness this energy in your art journal, consider creating a dedicated space or page for dialogue with the unseen. Start by setting an intention to connect with a specific ancestor or spirit ally. Use imagery that reminds you of them or symbols associated with Mercury. Write down questions you’d like answers to or simply allow your hand to move freely, channeling any messages that might come through. Let your art journal act as the sacred space where you and your spirit allies can meet, communicate, and exchange wisdom. Remember, this is a personal journey, and whatever emerges on the page is meant for you. Let the moon in Gemini inspire you to bridge the worlds and deepen your connection to your spirit allies and the energies that are here wanting to lovingly support you and your creative dreams.

Friday

On Friday, the gibbous moon is in the sign of Gemini. When the moon, which is closely tied to your emotions and intuition, journeys through Gemini, it creates a rich and dynamic interplay between your heart and mind. The moon’s emotional intuitiveness aligns with Gemini’s intellectual curiosity, resulting in energy that stimulates both your feelings and thoughts.

While the moon is in Gemini, you might feel more curious and open than usual, leading you toward exploration, learning, and the quest for new ideas or concepts. Communication, especially around emotions, becomes an important theme as the Gemini Moon encourages open dialogue, sharing of ideas, and meaningful conversation. Gemini moon days are also characterized by a noticeable versatility and adaptability in dealing with emotions. You are nudged to see various perspectives, to better understand your feelings and those of others.

Furthermore, the Gemini Moon encourages exploration of your inner duality, much like the twins that symbolize Gemini. This exploration allows you to become more comfortable with the many faces and dimensions of your inner self, helping you understand that your complexity is part of your unique beauty. Yes, you have many more sides to you than you realize.

Because Gemini’s influence can sometimes result in a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions, journaling can be a powerful tool during this time, helping provide clarity and understanding.

In your art journal, consider reflecting on questions like:

How can I better communicate my feelings to others?

How am I embracing the duality within myself?

In what ways can I adapt to the emotional changes I’m experiencing?

And how can I use my thoughts to support my emotional well-being?

Above all this Gemini moon day is a great reminder that the dance between our heart and mind, when embraced, can lead to a more enriched and balanced emotional and spiritual life.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents an emotional or spiritual change you’re going through in your life right now.

Saturday

On Saturday, the moon is in a tense relationship with Neptune today.

Neptune wants to help us connect to source energy and experience what its like to reach our divine potential, feel unconditionally loved and feel our interconnectedness. It also wants to open our psychic gifts, help us receive divine inspiration and dissolve barriers so we experience wholeness and unity. It also wants to help us expand and use our imagination and see the unseen or know the unknown.

It’s a planet of intuition, psychic abilities, imagination, spirituality and dreams but it can also represent our delusions or our desires to escape, including our desire to escape our uncomfortable feelings.

In this tense relationship with the moon, Neptune can cause you to feel unsettled and uncertain. It can especially blur the line between your experience and someone else’s – which for empaths and highly sensitive people means you might be more prone to absorb other people’s feelings today, so much so that you get confused about what is yours to carry and what was never yours to never pick up in the first place.

It’s a good day to protect your energy field. In your art journal, draw, paint or collage what you imagine protecting your energy field looks like.

Sunday

On Sunday, the gibbous moon is in the sign of Cancer. Cancer is ruled by the moon so the moon is in a sign it feels most at home in.

Cancer energy is nocturnal in nature. It is sensitive, sentimental and carries the wisdom of cycles. It is connected to your ancestors, your roots and your feelings of home. It walks alongside your subconscious realm.  It is the archetype of the wise and whole mother within who knows how to wrap and protect and care for all your inner parts.  It is calm, compassionate and nurturing but it is also emotions that move up and down and all around. It wants to help you meet your emotional needs and teach you how to feel emotionally safe. It can help you change and transform your inner landscape but it can also amplify your defensiveness or resistance.

Think about where in your life you could use some nurturing and tender loving care.

How can you take care of your body today?

How can you take care of your emotional self today?

How can you take care of your spirit today?

with love,
