Celebrating the Summer Solstice in Your Art Journal
Welcome to the height of the sun’s power.
The summer solstice happens on Friday, June 20th and it marks the longest day and shortest night of the year in the northern hemisphere. It’s the point in the sun’s journey when the reaches the peak of its power, rising highest in the sky and blessing us with the most light.
This turning point happens as the sun moves from the sign of Gemini into the sign of Cancer, which is ruled by the moon. It’s a beautiful and tender shift. The sun is moving from the outward, airy, curious energy of Gemini into the emotional, nurturing, and intuitive waters of Cancer.
In nature’s rhythm, the solstice is like a full moon moment for the sun. If the sun’s path across the year were like a lunar cycle, the solstice would be the sun’s full light. It is a culmination, a celebration, and a time of heightened visibility. Symbolically, it’s a moment when we’re asked to step fully into the light of who we are and offer that light to the world.
Just as the full moon illuminates and radiates, the solstice invites you to be seen.
This month, in The Creative Witch’s Monthly Guide to Growing Your Business with the Moon and Stars and in the business coven that accompanies it, we’re working with that solar symbolism to support you in being seen in your business. This is your invitation to shine more fully, to let your gifts be known, and to allow your presence to ripple outward like the rays of the sun.
You don’t have to shout or be loud. I’m too introverted for that and you might be too and that’s okay. The kind of visibility I’m referring to is about letting your spirit show up in your work with more confidence, clarity, and openness.
The solstice is a perfect time to cast a visibility spell for your business because nature is modeling for us how to stand in full light (I shared a step-by-step visibility spell in the June issue of the guidebook so if you’re subscribed, don’t forget to visit that section this week). It’s a reminder that the earth herself is held by that light and that you, too, are meant to take up space and glow.
The Astrology of the Solstice
This year’s summer solstice is made even more magical by the astrology surrounding it. Mercury is in a happy relationship with the North Node, which helps your thoughts and voice move in the direction your soul wants to grow toward. The North Node represents destiny and becoming so Mercury in harmony with it suggests that your words, your ideas, and the messages you share now can open new pathways toward your true purpose. This makes the timing of our visibility spell even more potent.
You’re not just being seen. You’re speaking your future into being.
Mercury is also in the sign of Cancer at this time. This adds emotional intelligence, empathy, and a nurturing tone to how you express yourself. It encourages you to communicate in a way that feels safe, heart-centered, and emotionally grounded. For highly sensitive entrepreneurs, this means we’re working with the solstice energy in our art journals (and maybe even performing that visibility spell I was talking about) at a time when the stars are saying market in a way that speaks care, nurturing and is intuitive. You can be visible and still be soft.
Even more support comes from Jupiter, who is having a close relationship with the sun near the solstice. Jupiter expands whatever it touches, so this union magnifies the light and helps bring abundance, hope, and growth to your solstice celebration. With Jupiter’s influence, your wishes for visibility in your business isn’t just about being seen, it’s about being seen for who you really are, and attracting the kind of expansion your spirit is longing for.
Meanwhile, Venus and the moon are both in Taurus on the day of the solstice. Venus for the full day and the moon moving into Taurus later in the evening. These two intuitive, loving energies together in this earth sign ruled by Venus brings a stabilizing, sensual, and supportive energy to the solstice magic we’re weaving. Taurus reminds you to ground your desires in the body, to move slowly, and to consider how your solstice magic will create beauty that lasts.
To me, the presence of Venus and the moon in Taurus is like being surrounded by roses. It reassures the more tender parts of you that it’s safe to be visible, and it invites you to receive all the good things that come when you shine your light.
Shining Your Light in a Gentle Intentional Way
As you can see, one of the things that makes this year’s summer solstice so special is how gentle and supportive the energy is. So often, visibility seems big, bold, and loud. But that’s just not how I’m built and maybe that applies to you too. I need softer, slower, more emotionally safe ways to be seen. And this solstice, the astrology is lining up in a way that really honors that.
It’s as if the stars are giving us exactly what we need to feel safe enough to step into the light on our terms.
When you’re highly sensitive, especially if you have a history of childhood trauma or emotional neglect, being visible can bring up a lot. It can feel like being exposed. It can feel unsafe. Your nervous system carries those old fears, and it means you can’t push through visibility the way others might. You need more care. More safety. More trust. You need to feel safe before you can open up and share your work in the world.
And that’s why this solstice is so meaningful to me. The astrology is gentle, nurturing, and calm. It’s not fiery or overwhelming – at least most of it feels that way to me anyway. It’s grounding, soft, and heart-centered. It’s the kind of cosmic support that reminds you it’s okay to take up space in a quiet way. That you can grow your business and be visible in ways that feel natural to you. You don’t have to perform or pretend. You just have to be willing to show up. This is your time to be seen by the people who are meant to find you and in the ways that make you feel safe.
The Six-Petaled Mid Year Review
The summer solstice is also the perfect time to pause and take stock. The solstice marks the halfway point in the solar year, so it offers a natural, sacred invitation to check in with your business intentions, celebrate your growth, and realign with what matters most to you now (because you’re allowed to change your mind about what you want and what’s important to you now).
Remember, this kind of gentle mid-year review in your art journal is not about judging. It’s about honoring the journey you’ve been on since the dark of the winter solstice and asking your soul: What wants to shift now?
Here’s a creative summery way to structure this kind of self-reflection in your journal:
Create a two-page spread and divide it into six sections like petals of a flower.
Here are the prompts to guide each section:
What did you hope for at the Winter Solstice?
Think back to the quiet of December. What were you calling in for your business and your life? You might look through old journal entries, vision boards, or even your calendar. Write or illustrate what you remember hoping for.
What dreams were seeded in the darkness?
What intentions did you whisper into the void?
What have you grown?
Reflect on the progress you’ve made emotionally, spiritually, and practically. Sometimes growth is visible in numbers or outcomes, but don’t forget, sometimes the most important shifts are internal.
What have you learned, healed, or dared to try?
What inner strengths have you uncovered?
What support or guidance helped you grow?
What wants to be celebrated?
Let this be a moment of ceremony. Paint fireworks or sunbursts, write your wins in golden ink, glue down flower petals or draw stars. Even small things matter.
What am you proud of?
What deserves to be honored?
What do you want to thank yourself (and perhaps Spirit) for?
What no longer fits?
As the light peaks, it often illuminates what’s out of alignment. Let the clarity of the solstice help you lovingly release what’s not serving your business or your nervous system anymore.
What patterns, projects, or beliefs do you feel complete with?
What is too heavy to carry into the second half of the year?
What still needs tending?
Growth is rarely linear. Maybe something you planted in the winter just needs more time. Or maybe a vision is asking to evolve. Let yourself be honest and gentle here.
What dreams are still quietly rooting?
What areas of your business or creativity need more attention or nurturing before winter returns?
What do you want to expand before the next solstice?
Use this last section to cast your vision forward. From now until the Winter Solstice, what do you want to focus on? What energy do you want to lead with? This is where you set intentions with the sun guiding your way.
What would feel aligned, meaningful, or liberating to bring to life in the next six months?
What does your future self want to thank you for?

Monday
The week kicks off with the disseminating moon (waning gibbous) moving into the sign of Pisces then immediately having a happy relationship with Jupiter on Monday.
Today the moon is gently waning and slowly pouring back into the world all that it has gathered since the new moon. It’s a time for sharing, integrating, and receiving insight from the journey you’ve been on this lunar cycle. And right now, the moon is in Pisces, which brings a dreamy, intuitive, emotionally rich quality to this moment. The Pisces moon is like the soft spiritual side of you, inviting you to listen inward, trust your imagination, and open your heart to mystery. It’s not about logic today. It’s about soul, softness, and surrender.
This Pisces moon is also having a happy and flowing relationship with Jupiter, who is now in the sign of Cancer. And this is significant, because in ancient astrology, Jupiter is the traditional ruler of Pisces and it’s exalted in Cancer, which means it’s super comfortable and strong there. So this is like receiving a blessing from a deeply wise and loving guide who wants to help you grow in ways that feel emotionally nourishing and intuitively aligned. Jupiter wants to help you grow and expand but in the sign of Cancer, not through force. Through gentleness, through your sensitivity, through your intuition and the parts of you that maybe didn’t always feel seen or safe in the past.
This energy is especially meaningful when you think about the parts of your birth chart ruled by Pisces and Cancer. Those houses in your chart show where you’re being offered intuitive insight (Pisces) and deep emotional growth or healing (Cancer). For instance, if Pisces rules your 10th house, you might be receiving guidance around your career or purpose. If Cancer rules your 2nd house, Jupiter might be expanding your sense of self-worth and your capacity to receive. Take a moment to reflect on which areas of life those signs rule for you because the moon and Jupiter are working together right now to offer healing and growth there.
In your art journal today, I invite you to create a page that feels like an offering of gratitude to the mystical or spiritual. You might want to use watery colors like blues, purples and sea-greens for the water elements of Pisces and Cancer or paint soft waves, mist, or dreamlike images.
Explore:
What inspired insight or wisdom do I want to share with my community today?
What wisdom have I received this moon cycle so far?
Where am I being supported to grow with grace?
You might draw a sacred vessel or chalice emptying liquid out of itself and fill the falling liquid with symbols of what you’re ready to pour back into the world. Or write a blessing for your community or your future clients and imagine words from your heart that ripple outward to your community.
Let the moon guide your hand. Let Jupiter open your heart.
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents what you’re ready to pour back into the world.
Tuesday
On Tuesday, the disseminating moon is in the sign of Pisces and is having a happy relationship with Venus who is in Taurus.
While the moon is in the dreamy, intuitive waters of Pisces, she’s having a sweet and supportive conversation with Venus in Taurus. This is a gentle, grounding, emotionally rich kind of energy.
The disseminating moon is a time to soften, to give back, and to reflect on what you’ve learned since the new moon. You’ve gathered so much inner wisdom over the past couple of weeks, and now the moon is inviting you to pour some of that wisdom out into your creative work, your spiritual practice, your relationships, and your business. especially in ways that feel deeply nourishing to your body, your heart, and your soul.
The Pisces moon brings imagination, compassion, and emotional depth. She reminds you that you are connected to everything, that your inner world is meaningful, and that your sensitivity is sacred (imagine if you could always remember and believe that about your sensitivities! That’s too big of an ask for me but it’s a nice thought to ponder).
Venus in Taurus is earthy and grounded. She loves beauty, comfort, sensuality, and the magic of slow, steady growth. So when these two energies meet in a harmonious way like they are today, there’s a beautiful opportunity to blend your dreams and emotions with your physical world. You can root your visions in the earth. You can create something real from your intuition. You can let your business be shaped by both your feelings and what you long for and value most.
This is a perfect energy for bringing more beauty, pleasure, and softness into the structures of your work and your life.
In your art journal today, try creating a page that feels like a blessing. Create something that honors what you love most about the work you do or the people you serve.
Let your heart speak clearly in your art journal about what matters most to you in your business. Not the metrics or the plans or even the goals but the soul of it. The part of it that makes you tear up sometimes when you think about it. The sacred reason you show up even when it’s hard. The quiet moments of meaning that remind you why you keep choosing this path.
You might want to think about the people you serve. You might want to think about their hearts, their struggles, their sensitivity, their longings.
What do you see in them that you deeply admire?
What do you want for them with your whole being?
You could paint or write something in your journal that feels like a love letter to them. Or maybe you want to focus on what you love most about the work itself. What part of it feels like magic to you? When do you feel most alive, most in flow? Maybe it’s when you’re creating, or when you’re in a session and someone suddenly sees themselves differently and softens. Or maybe it’s when you’re quietly creating content that you know will help someone feel less alone.
Try to capture that part of your work. Try to capture the essence of it in your art journal. You can collage images that feel like that feeling, or create symbols that represent that sacred moment. Maybe a glowing candle for clarity, or an open door for possibility, or a garden of flowers for transformation and beauty.
This kind of art journaling becomes a devotional practice. It helps you stay connected to your why and not the strategic why, but the soul why. It reminds you that your work is love in motion. It also draws that energy toward you, like a blessing you’re offering out into the world and that circles right back to nourish you too.
Maybe you want to collage images that feel luxurious or peaceful. Maybe you want to paint something soft and flowing like water or velvet or rose petals. You could draw a heart-shape and fill it with words and symbols that represent what you love about your audience or clients or customers. You could also write a simple spell or blessing like: May what I create nourish the hearts it touches.
Let the moon in Pisces help you dream and feel, and let Venus in Taurus help you anchor those dreams in something tangible and beautiful.
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents the heart of your work or your sacred why.
Wednesday
On Wednesday, the last quarter moon moves into Aries and something powerful happens in the sky. There’s a big triangle of supportive energy between Pluto in Aquarius, Saturn and Neptune in Aries, and now Jupiter in Cancer. These planets are each sitting in the early degrees of their signs, and together they form this beautiful triangle or a flowing, cooperative exchange of energy that helps you move forward with grace, insight, and a deeper sense of purpose.
The moon in Aries is connecting with each of these planets today, reflecting this energy down to us in a way we can hopefully feel and work with in our everyday lives and our businesses.
Emotionally, this lunar energy might stir something awake in you. Perhaps it’s a feeling like you’re ready to stop hesitating and start moving. The Aries moon adds courage, clarity, and urgency to the mix. Saturn offers structure and commitment. Neptune softens that fire with vision and compassion. Pluto adds the raw power of transformation. And now that Jupiter is in Cancer, there’s a deep emotional nourishment and intuitive protection supporting all of it.
It’s a rare combination. Maybe even one where your heart, your spirit, your determination, and the unseen forces around you all want the same thing: for you to become who you really are and do what you came here to do. Even if it’s scary. Even if it feels new. Even if you still have some tender parts that don’t feel ready.
Practically, this is a day to notice what wants to shift and especially in your mindset, your habits, your willingness to be seen, or your commitment to your dreams. It’s a good time to follow a creative impulse or take a small bold step in your business that aligns with your deeper calling. Not a pushy step, but a guided one. This moon is about responding to the quiet fire rising within you.
In your art journal, I suggest you draw a triangle and make one point for Pluto in Aquarius to represent transformation from stepping into your power, one point for Saturn and Neptune in Aries to represent structured new beginnings that align with your deepest dreams, and one for Jupiter in Cancer to represent growing and expanding yourself so your business can grow and expand too. Let that triangle become a symbol of sacred support. Inside the triangle, you could write or collage images that represent the big dream you want this cosmic energy to nurture and support alongside the kind of support you most long to receive as you grow your business.
You might also write a blessing at the center. Maybe something like…“May the moon hold me. May the stars guide me. May I be supported as I reclaim my power and step into who I really am.”
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an triangle and inside it, create an image that represents your most important dreams and longings.
Thursday
On Thursday, last quarter moon is in the sign of Aries.
This is a powerful time to check in with yourself and especially when it comes to how you’ve been showing up for your dreams. This phase of the moon is all about reflection and release. It’s the time in the lunar cycle when the moon and sun are in a tense relationship, and that tension helps you get clear. In Aries, the moon draws down fiery, action-oriented energy, which means you’re being invited to look honestly at where you’ve taken bold steps lately… and where you’ve been holding back.
Emotionally, this can stir up a mix of feelings. You might feel frustration if things aren’t moving fast enough, restlessness if your energy feels scattered, or even doubt if the risks you’ve taken haven’t paid off yet. But Aries also brings courage, and the last quarter moon helps you use that courage to release what’s no longer helping you move forward. Maybe that’s a limiting belief, a habit that’s been slowing you down, or an old story about who you’re allowed to be or what your business is allowed to look like.
Practically, it’s a great time to tidy up loose ends in your business or take one final action to clear the way for a fresh start at the next new moon. That might look like finally sending that email, wrapping up a project, or saying no to something that doesn’t align anymore. Think of it like sweeping the ashes after a fire and making space for what comes next.
In your art journal, you might paint or draw a flame or a spark to represent the fire of Aries. Then write down what you’re ready to let burn away. Consider releasing anything that feels like it’s keeping you from fully showing up in your work or your creative calling. You could also create an image of yourself as a brave version of you or the part of you that keeps going, even when it’s hard. Let that image remind you that you’re not starting over, you’re rising wiser. This is a moon that says: you’ve learned something important. Now honor it, and let what no longer serves fall away.
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents releasing what no longer serves you before the next lunar cycle.
Friday
On Friday, we greet the Summer Solstice, bringing the longest day and shortest night of the year here in the northern hemisphere. It’s a turning point in the sun’s yearly journey and a moment when the light peaks. The sun rises high and strong, offering the fullest expression of its energy. This is a time when the earth is bathed in brightness, and nature reaches toward its own potential. Symbolically, it’s a moment when you’re invited to do the same as if the sun is asking you to turn toward your own light and wonder, what in me wants to shine?
As the sun moves from airy Gemini into the water sign of Cancer, this brightness is softened with emotion, intuition, and care. Cancer is ruled by the moon, so this solstice energy carries a lovely balance of sun and moon, light and feeling. It’s as if the sun says, Here, take this light and bring it into your inner world. Let it illuminate your heart and the core of who you really are. Let your spirit shine.
For those of us who are building something meaningful because we feel called to help make the world a more beautiful, compassionate place and especially if you’re highly sensitive and carry old wounds around being seen, this is an invitation to step into visibility in a way that feels emotionally safe and authentic.
You don’t have to be bold and loud to shine bright.
If the sun’s movement through the zodiac was a lunar cycle, the summer solstice would be its brightest, most expressive phase. Just like a full moon, it’s a time to be seen. But that doesn’t mean you have to be loud or performative. If you’re like me, you may crave softer, slower, quieter ways of being visible. This solstice is here to support that. In my June guidebook and the coven, we’ve been using this moment to cast a visibility spell for our work. These are creative art spells that align with our own energy and call in the kind of connection we actually want.
The astrology of this solstice deepens the magic. Mercury is in a supportive connection with the North Node, helping your voice and ideas align with your greater purpose. Jupiter is close to the sun, expanding light and possibility. Venus and the moon are both in Taurus, adding sensuality, groundedness, and beauty to your magic. All of this encourages visibility that is nourishing, not draining; meaningful, not performative. It says: your intuition, your softness, and your care belong in your work. Your presence is enough.
This is also the halfway point in the solar year which makes it a perfect moment for reflection. I like to honor this in my art journal with a gentle mid-year review. As I explained above, I call it the Six-Petaled Review. Scroll up to read the more detailed instructions but basically, I suggest dividing a two-page spread into six flower-like sections and let each one hold a question:
What did I hope for at the Winter Solstice?
What have I grown?
What wants to be celebrated?
What no longer fits?
What still needs tending?
And what do I want to expand before the next solstice comes?
Each petal becomes a space to explore not only the practical shifts you’ve made in your business but also the deep emotional and spiritual changes you’ve undergone since the dark of winter.
There’s no right or wrong way to do this. You can write, paint, draw, collage, or do a mix of everything. What matters is that you create space to witness yourself. Honor what you’ve already carried through this year. Give thanks for your courage. Let go of anything that feels too heavy to continue. And let yourself re-vision where you’re headed.
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that celebrates the summer solstice or do the six-petaled mid-year review.
Saturday
On Saturday, the balsamic moon (or the waning crescent moon) is in the sign of Taurus alongside Venus.
The balsamic phase is a time for rest, reflection, and letting go. It’s a quiet, sacred space between cycles, when the moon is drawing its energy inward and inviting you to do the same.
The balsamic moon in Taurus brings a particularly earthy, grounded quality to this inward turn. Taurus is the sign of slow beauty, of sensual presence, of deep roots and steady values. It asks you to come home to yourself especially to the parts of you that find peace in simplicity, in touch, in nature, and in what truly sustains you. And because the moon is alongside Venus which is Taurus’ ruling planet, the energy is extra lush, extra loving, and gently powerful.
This is a soft but potent moment. It’s not a time for striving or fixing. It’s a time for listening. The moon is drawing down the quiet wisdom of Venus who is the planet of love, beauty, value, and self-worth and asking you to cradle it inside your body, inside your business, inside the heart of your work. This kind of energy is perfect for remembering why you started this path in the first place. It’s a moon that helps you touch the original essence of your creative calling and the part that just wanted to make something beautiful, or help people feel something, or contribute to healing in some small, true way.
In your art journal, this is the perfect time to create a page that feels like a love letter to what matters most like we did earlier this week. You might collage images or paint textures that feel like safety and sweetness or like those glimmer moments they talk about in somatic work. Or you might gently write down what you’re ready to release. What kinds of things get in the way of you enjoying the sweeter things in your life? Do you need to release things like pressure, perfectionism, comparison, or timelines that don’t feel like yours? Let this page be a soft spell of surrender. Draw, paint, press, print or add rose petals or plants you associate with the moon and Venus if you have them. Light a candle if it helps you feel more present. This is folk magic at its gentlest for just you, your intuition, the moon, and the earth reminding you that you’re enough and that slowing down is part of how you grow yourself and your business.
This kind of art magic helps root your business in nourishment instead of burnout. It helps your nervous system soften. It helps your creativity flow from love instead of fear. It reminds you that your value isn’t measured in metrics, but in how honestly and lovingly you’re showing up for your own path. Let this moon hold you. Let Venus soften your heart.
In your art journal, create a page that feels like a love letter to what matters most to you in your business or create an image that represents what you want to release or clear before the new moon.
Sunday
On Sunday, the moon is in its balsamic phase which is the final sliver of the lunar cycle before the new moon begins.
It also moves into the sign of Gemini and makes a supportive connection to both Saturn and Neptune in Aries and a close relationship with Uranus who is also in Gemini. Uranus is the planet of awakening and unexpected insight.
This is the kind of day that might feel alive with possibility. The moon in Gemini encourages curiosity and reflection. It might stir up thoughts, ideas, or questions you didn’t know you needed to ask. The connection with Uranus could bring sudden clarity or a spark of insight. It might be something unexpected but helpful. It’s like the universe handing you a little “a-ha” moment. Meanwhile, Saturn and Neptune in Aries are asking you to take your dreams seriously and maybe even contemplate how you want to start taking action on them in the new lunar cycle.
I think this makes the balsamic moon a little more focused on beginnings than usual and more about preparing your inner world for them then moving towards them. Part of getting your inner world ready for new beginnings is releasing what you no longer need, especially outdated thoughts or beliefs and to imagine something new with a trust in your ability to create it. Neptune adds soul and softness, Saturn adds discipline and staying power, and Uranus stirs the pot just enough to keep things exciting. It’s a day to gently free your mind and your business from boxes they don’t belong in anymore.
In your art journal, create a page that represents something you’re ready to release like an old story, a fear, a way of thinking that no longer fits and then add symbols or colors that represent the kind of spaciousness or freedom you’d like to welcome in. Since Gemini is an air sign, you might want to include air symbols like feathers, the wind or wings.
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents what you want to release from your inner world and the new thoughts and beliefs you’d like to welcome in to support you during the next lunar cycle.
