Taking Bold Action with the Full Moon in Aries – Art Journal with the Moon for October 14-20, 2024
In this post, I share a summary of the moon for the week of October 14-20, 2024 as it moves through the zodiac and interacts with the planets. I also talk about how to work with the full moon in Aries in your art journal to take bold action and move forward in your life.
The Moon This Week
We greet a full moon in Aries this week. This particular full moon carries a lot of getting things started and moving kind of energy. Aries is ruled by Mars so understanding what the planet Mars is doing at the time of the full moon gives us a better picture of the energy this full moon is gifting us with. Mars is in the sign of Cancer, which like the sign of Aries, is a cardinal sign. Cardinal signs are seen as the initiators, the ones who spark movement and bring in new energy.
The four cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, and they each begin one of the four seasons, which gives them their natural association with leadership and initiation. They are responsible for setting things into motion and they represent the start of something new so the full moon is carrying a lot of this cardinal energy. If you’re wondering the areas of your life where all this starting something new energy is being activated, look to the houses in your birth chart that are in the sign of Aries and Cancer.
I’ll explain more about the full moon in the weekly summary below. This is a summary of the moon’s energy this week, giving you an overview of what to expect as the moon moves through different signs and phases. However, if you’re looking for more specific ways to work with the moon’s energy each day, be sure to follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. The week kicks off with the gibbous moon in the sign of Pisces having a close relationship with Saturn on Monday which is the perfect energy to get clear on what you need to release or refine so that when the full moon comes, you’re ready to take bold, confident steps forward toward your goals or dreams. Pisces is all about flowing with your intuition, connecting with your emotions, and trusting in what you can’t always see. When Saturn comes into play, it adds structure, discipline, and maturity to that Pisces energy. Use this time to clarify, refine, and prepare for the powerful shift coming with the full moon.
On Tuesday, the gibbous moon moves into the sign of Aries, where it will be during the full moon. When the moon is in Aries, you’re being encouraged to take the lead in your own life, to make bold decisions, and to move forward with confidence. But before rushing into action, it’s important to pause and get crystal clear on what you really want to focus your energy on. Aries energy is powerful, but to harness it well, you need a clear direction. The gibbous phase of the moon is when we refine and get ready for the full moon’s culmination so in your journal, get clear on how you are going to use the bold full moon in Aries energy with intention. What are you ready to initiate that aligns with your authentic self?
On Wednesday, the gibbous moon is still in the sign of Aries. Use this day to continue to explore and get clear on what you want to initiate in your life. Take some time now to reflect on what you feel ready to initiate or take action on in your life. Ask yourself: What is something I’ve been holding back on that I’m now ready to move forward with? What bold steps do I feel called to take? What area of my life needs more leadership and decisive action?
With the full moon in Aries, Thursday brings pivotal changes and a push to take action. This full moon might feel like a turning point—not just in one area of your life, but in several. It’s a time where things reach their breaking point, and you may need to make choices about what to end or move away from. The themes here are about breaking away from the past, leaving behind patterns or situations that no longer serve you. If you’ve been feeling stuck, this moon provides the energy to finally let go and move forward. You might also have an intense desire to start fresh or get things moving. On Friday, the moon is in the sign of Taurus. Taurus energy is stable and secure. It brings an air of grace, calm, tolerance, tenacity, comfort, pleasure, grounding, safety and security. After the fiery, action-packed energy of the full moon in Aries, the moon moving into Taurus brings a much-needed sense of grounding. Taurus, an earth sign, offers stability, calm, and a slower pace, which can help you integrate and ground the pivotal changes that the full moon in Aries may have stirred up in your life. In your art journal, you can work with this Taurus energy by focusing on themes of stability, security, and nurturing. Think about how you can bring more calm and balance into your life after all the fiery momentum from Aries.
Saturday’s moon in Gemini is having a lot of relationships with other planets. This is a busy moon. You could feel a sense of scattered energy or like you’re juggling many different thoughts and ideas. You may feel pulled between various tasks, emotions, or people, and it can be a little overwhelming. It’s important to stay flexible during a Gemini moon and remember that it’s okay if you don’t get everything done at once.
Okay side note here, my rising, sun and moon are in Gemini and Jupiter is currently in Gemini which expands everything and I’m hosting Thanksgiving supper for my extended family on Saturday so send me calming, earthy vibes. It looks like I will very much need them so I don’t feel too scattered or overwhelmed.
The week wraps up on Sunday with the disseminating moon in Gemini having a tense relationship with Saturn. You might feel like your ideas are being weighed down or that there are obstacles to expressing yourself freely. Saturn often asks us to slow down, take things seriously, and reflect on what we’re doing. So, while Gemini wants to move quickly and jump from one thing to the next, Saturn may be urging you to pause, evaluate, and get grounded. This could bring up feelings of frustration or self-doubt, especially if you’re feeling restricted or blocked in some area of your life. In your art journal, you can work with this energy by using it as an opportunity to reflect on what’s holding you back or where you feel stuck.
Remember, the moon’s energy is here to support you in embracing who you truly are. By art journaling with the lunar energy this week, you’re not only connecting with the rhythms of nature but also nurturing your soul and manifesting the changes you really want to see in your life so you can more fully align with your true self.
Now let’s talk more about how to work with the full moon in Aries to take action and move forward.
Taking the Next Bold Step
This full moon in Aries is part of the same lunar cycle that began with the new moon solar eclipse in Libra just a couple weeks ago. Eclipses bring major beginnings and major endings, acting as powerful catalysts for transformation in our lives. When we experience a solar eclipse, especially in a sign like Libra that governs relationships, it highlights areas of our lives where we’re ready for deep change and new starts. Libra’s energy encourages balance, harmony, and relationship dynamics, and the eclipse likely brought up themes around these areas, especially where things need to shift.
For instance, the eclipse in Libra happened in my fifth house. One of the topics of the fifth house is pleasure and recreation. It represents those things in our lives that bring us joy or we do for fun. On a whim and without planning it, my husband and I ended up selling our old camping trailer (major ending) and purchasing a new camping trailer (major beginning) in the eclipse energy. It all happened in this beautiful, magical kind of way and when I walked in the new trailer I was hit with a wave of emotion because I had a vision of my husband and I living the kind of life we’ve talked about for years. I saw how we’ll be spending our leisure time and it wasn’t until I realized the eclipse was in my fifth house that I realized just how literal and accurate ancient astrology can be sometimes.
Now that we’ve moved into the full moon phase, this is the time for action after transformation. Full moons are about culmination and illumination, where what began at the new moon (or solar eclipse in this case) comes to light. The Aries full moon, ruled by Mars, which is currently in Cancer, pushes you to take decisive steps forward based on the inner changes that have already been set in motion. Aries is all about boldness, independence, and the courage to move forward, while Mars in Cancer ties this energy to family and emotional foundations.
You might find that the transformation you experienced during the solar eclipse is now asking you to take action in your relationships, whether that’s with family, close partners, or even your own emotional relationship to yourself. This could mean setting boundaries, stepping into your own power, or moving away from old dynamics that no longer support your growth. The pivotal changes you want to make during this full moon could be about how you’re showing up in your relationships—are you acting from a place of balance, or are there imbalances that need addressing?
For me, the full moon is in my eleventh of friends, community and groups but it’s also tying in my second house of money, income and how I earn a living (because Mars is in Cancer in my second house) so I haven’t fully figured it out yet (I still need to sit and journal with this energy) but I know there are changes that want to be made and action that wants to be taken around money and how I show up in leadership for my community.
Turning points
The full moon in Aries is all about taking action and making pivotal changes in your life. Full moons are always times of culmination, but when the moon is in Aries, the energy is intense, fiery, and full of momentum. You’ll likely feel a strong urge to push things forward and break away from anything that’s holding you back. There’s a now-or-never feeling in the air, as Aries energy urges you to act decisively and with confidence.
Since Aries is a cardinal sign, which initiates and leads, and Mars, its ruling planet, is also in a cardinal sign, there’s an intense drive to start fresh and get things moving. It’s a moon that pushes you to take bold steps toward what’s next in your life. You might feel a strong desire to move away from situations, people, or habits that no longer align with the person you’ve become. There’s an urgency to it, like you can’t stay in the same place any longer.
Working with the Full Moon in Your Art Journal
In your art journal, this is a powerful time to reflect on what’s shifting in your life and where you feel called to take action. If you have your birth chart drawn up in the whole sign system, look at the houses where Aries and Cancer land on your chart then figure out the areas of life those houses represent. Those areas of your life will be most activated by this full moon energy.
Here are some ways to work with the full moon energy in your art journal:
Create a page for release: Draw or write about the patterns, habits, or relationships you’re ready to leave behind. Use bold, fiery colors like red or orange to symbolize the intense Aries energy.
Visualize your next steps: Use this space to reflect on where you want to go next. What bold action are you ready to take? What’s your next step? You can create imagery that symbolizes forward movement—like arrows, paths, or mountains to climb.
Ask Yourself:
What in my life has reached a turning point?
What or who am I ready to move away from?
What bold action am I ready to take now?
What am I no longer willing to tolerate in my life?
This full moon in Aries is all about pushing things forward with intention. It’s a powerful time to take stock of where you are, let go of the past, and start moving decisively toward the future you truly want.
You can also take time to reflect on how your inner transformation is leading you to make outward changes. You can also reflect on the relationship themes that came up for you during the solar eclipse and think about how they’re connected to the steps you’re ready to take now.
Ask yourself:
What transformation did the solar eclipse bring to light?
What action am I ready to take in my relationships, especially with family or those closest to me?
How can I honor the new beginnings or endings that the eclipse highlighted in my life?
This full moon in Aries is asking you to take all the transformation you’ve gone through recently and do something with it. It’s a time to act boldly, let go of what no longer fits, and create new, empowering dynamics in your life and relationships.
