This week, we greet a new moon in Scorpio. It’s a great moon for fresh beginnings and for setting a clear intention. In this post, I share the strengths and benefits of this new moon and how to work with it to get clear on what you are willing to pay for your dreams and how to set powerful intentions in your art journal under the magic of this new moon.

Before we get into how to work with the magic of the Scorpio new moon, here is a more detailed summary of the moon’s energy this week, giving you an overview of what to expect as the moon moves through different signs and phases. However, if you’re looking for more specific ways to work with the moon’s energy each day, be sure to follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. The week kicks off with the moon changing phases and signs and having a lot of relationships with different planets on Monday which is good energy for change and movement. You might feel pulled in many directions or have moments of sudden insight, and it can bring a heightened awareness of what’s shifting within you. Changing signs adds a layer of fresh energy to the moon’s influence, with Libra bringing a new emotional tone at the end of the day. When the moon connects with several planets, it’s like a dialogue between different areas of life and layers of self—your emotions, goals, relationships, and inner work may all feel activated at once. It’s a wonderful opportunity in your art journal to work with layers and fluidity. Start by reflecting on what’s shifting in your life. Use symbols, colors, or shapes that reflect the phases and changes you’re experiencing.

On Tuesday, the balsamic moon is in the sign of Libra. When the moon is in Libra, especially in its final balsamic phase, it invites you to slow down, focus on rest, and tap into the gentle, nurturing qualities of Venus. This is a wonderful time to let go of any stress or heaviness you’ve been carrying, especially as autumn has brought so much change and transformation. Rather than rushing into the next thing, allow yourself to soak in the beauty around you. In your art journal, try to focus on beauty as a form of healing and rejuvenation. You could use colors, shapes, or images that feel soothing and harmonious, helping you reconnect with the things in life that feel peaceful and nurturing. Remember, beauty is not frivolous—it’s a balm for the soul – it’s a kind of magic in and of itself. It can heal and rejuvenate. It can remind you who you really are and what this is all for. By surrounding yourself with beauty, even if just in your art journal, you’re nourishing yourself.

On Wednesday, the balsamic moon is still and the sign of Libra but it’s also have a happy relationship with the planets Venus and Jupiter. This amplifies Libra’s gentle focus on beauty, harmony, and balance and adds an extra layer of sweetness, grace, and expansion to the day. This energy helps you refill your cup and feel deeply nourished. In fact, why not trying working with the imagery of a cup that is filled to the brim and running over with beauty, love and gratitude. Jupiter, known for its expansive and uplifting energy, brings a feeling of abundance and ease. With the moon harmonizing with both Venus and Jupiter, you might feel more optimistic, loving, and open-hearted. It’s a wonderful time to let go of stress or worries, focusing instead on what fills you with joy and a sense of fullness.

With the balsamic moon moving into the sign of Scorpio (the sign of transformation) and having a tense relationship with Pluto (the planet of transformation) and Mars, Thursday offers a deep, almost urgent need to shed old patterns or beliefs. The moon is urging you to dive into the darker or hidden aspects of your emotions, to uncover what you might usually avoid, and to be honest with yourself about anything you’re ready to release before this new lunar cycle begins. In your art journal, you might start by creating a page that captures the things you’re ready to let go of. Allow yourself to dig into the feelings this energy stirs up, and remember that this process is about clearing space for new beginnings under tomorrow’s Scorpio new moon.

On Friday, we greet the new moon in Scorpio. Scroll down to read my thoughts on this new moon and how best to work with it in your art journal.

Saturday’s moon begins in Scorpio then late in the evening, it moves into the sign of Sagittarius (in the mountain time zone). It’s also having a lot of harmonious relationships with other planets. This feels like a lovely shift of energy – like a breath of fresh air after intense self-reflection and release, and the carries a more optimistic, expansive feeling as it settles into Sagittarius. The moon also forms harmonious relationships with Mars, Pluto, and Mercury as it changes signs, which makes this transition even more empowering and energizing. This energy feels like a signal that all the internal work you’ve been doing—the letting go, the deep transformation, and the emotional breakthroughs—is now setting things in motion toward something positive and forward-looking. To work with this energy in your art journal, consider creating a page that embodies this shift from Scorpio’s depths to Sagittarius’s optimism and expansion.

The week wraps up on Sunday with the moon in Sagittarius having a tense relationship with Saturn. Sagittarius is all about expanding your horizons, embracing optimism, and exploring new possibilities. There’s a strong urge to move forward, dream big, and take inspired action. However, with Saturn’s tense relationship with the moon in the evening, you might feel a bit of resistance or doubt creeping in. Saturn’s influence can feel like an anchor, urging caution and practicality, which may feel like a pushback on Sagittarius’s free-spirited energy. In your art journal, start by creating a page that captures your vision and the dreams you’re excited about. Then, invite Saturn’s grounding influence onto the page by adding elements of structure, stability, and commitment. Let it remind you that building something worthwhile often takes time. This energy is perfect for getting clear on both your inspiration and the practical steps needed to support it, helping you manifest your dreams in a way that will serve you in the long run.

Remember, the moon’s energy is here to support you in embracing who you truly are. By art journaling with the lunar energy this week, you’re not only connecting with the rhythms of nature but also nurturing your soul and manifesting the changes you really want to see in your life so you can more fully align with your true self.

Now let’s look at how to harness the power and magic of the Scorpio new moon.

What to Know About The Scorpio New Moon

There are a couple factors that make working with this new moon interesting.

Strong Fresh Beginnings Energy

The new moon, happening on the first of the month, is especially powerful for setting intentions because it aligns with both the energy of Scorpio—a sign deeply connected to transformation—and the timing of new beginnings that naturally come with the start of a new lunar cycle and a new month.

It is also happening on the Witch’s New Year, which is celebrated during Samhain, a traditional festival marking the shift into darker, quieter months. Spiritually, the Witch’s New Year is a time to honor the ancestors, reflect on the past year, and clear space for the growth and transformations to come.

This year, with the new moon in Scorpio falling on November 1st, you’re invited to enter a powerful time of inner work, transformation, and renewal. Scorpio season is deeply connected to themes of death, transformation and rebirth, uncovering hidden truths, and shedding what no longer serves you.

Strong Water Magic

There’s also a strong water energy that will be present during the Scorpio new moon. Scorpio is a water sign, and Mars, the ruler of this new moon, is also in a water sign (Cancer), and the moon is having a relationship with Saturn, which is also in a water sign (Pisces). Water energy is all about our emotional and intuitive realms. When we talk about releasing and clearing with this water energy, it means paying special attention to your emotional landscape.

What emotions are you holding onto that no longer serve you?

What fears, doubts, or insecurities are lingering?

What emotional baggage are you carrying from the past that is preventing you from moving forward?

This is the time to get curious about what needs to be released emotionally so you can create space for the new beginnings you want to manifest. Take a moment to check in with yourself. Ask, “What feelings or emotional patterns am I ready to let go of? What emotional attachments are holding me back from stepping fully into the new chapter I want to create?”

Strong Mars and Saturn Energy

Scorpio is ruled by Mars, so this new moon is infused with Mars’ drive, action, and determination. Mars energy is all about ambition, taking charge, and having the courage to pursue your desires. It’s the kind of energy that lights a fire under you, pushing you to get serious about what you really want. You may feel an urge to take action, make decisions, and be bold about what you’re striving for. There’s a competitive spirit here that makes you question, “Am I willing to fight for what I want?”

Adding to this mix is Saturn, who’s in a supportive, harmonious relationship with the moon right now. Saturn brings the energy of patience, discipline, and stability. Saturn asks you to look at the long-term picture and consider the practical steps and effort needed to reach your goals. Think of Saturn as the wise, seasoned energy that tells you to stick with things, even when the journey feels slow or challenging. Saturn in Pisces, specifically, encourages you to dream big but also reminds you that lasting change takes time, patience, and commitment.

Together, as my mentor Kelly Surtees explains, Mars and Saturn create a powerful dynamic. Mars fires up your motivation and pushes you forward, while Saturn keeps you grounded and steady, encouraging you to make sure that every step is aligned with your long-term goals. This combination invites you to think deeply about what you truly want and what you’re willing to sacrifice or put in to get it. What price are you willing to pay? What effort, time, or other personal costs are needed to make your dream a reality?

In your journal, consider these questions:

  • How much am I willing to fight for my goals?
  • What actions am I ready to take to manifest what I want?
  • When I consider the effort it will take, do I still want it?

This new moon energy is ideal for clarifying your desires, getting honest about your motivation, and deciding if you’re ready to commit. The influence of Mars and Saturn makes clear what every good witch already knows: real transformation is possible, but it comes with a price.

Working With The New Moon in Your Art Journal

For the upcoming new moon in Scorpio, here’s a ritual you can perform in your art journal to explore the cost of manifesting your desires and then set a clear, intentional path forward once you’ve made your decision. This ritual will help you dive deep, like Scorpio’s energy encourages, into the sacrifices or changes that might be required and give you a way to confirm your commitment to the goals you truly want.

If you want a step-by-step process of how I perform moon rituals in my art journal, visit this page.

STEP ONE – Explore

  1. Start by setting up a new page in your art journal. Write down at the top, “What am I willing to sacrifice to create the life I want?” or “What will it cost me to manifest my desire?”
  2. Draw a line down the center. On the left side, list the things you want to manifest, the changes you want to create, or the dreams you have. Get specific here and let yourself imagine these desires as vividly as possible.
  3. On the right side of the page, start listing what it might “cost” you to bring each of those desires into reality. Consider factors like time, energy, certain relationships, current habits, or old beliefs you may need to release. Scorpio’s energy is about transformation and the willingness to shed what no longer serves, so get honest with yourself.
  4. Reflect on these questions as you fill out your page:
    • What habits or mindsets do I need to let go of to bring this change into my life?
    • Am I willing to dedicate my time, energy, or resources to this?
    • Is there anything I’m afraid of losing in the process?
    • Does this desire truly align with who I am or want to be?
  5. Once you’ve listed these costs, pause and check in with your intuition. Do you still want these things? Do you feel aligned with these costs, or does something feel off? Write down any insights that come up in the form of a sentence or affirmation. This will help you tune into your true desires.

STEP TWO – Set the Intention

When you’re clear on what you’re willing to sacrifice and feel aligned with your desires, now is the time to set your intention with conviction.

  1. Turn to a new page in your journal. Write down, “I am ready to bring this desire to life” or another phrase that resonates with you. Underneath, list the things you’re willing to sacrifice or change, acknowledging them as steps you’re taking to make your dreams come true.

  2. Use images, symbols, or colors to represent your intentions and the sacrifices you’re making. Scorpio energy is deep and transformative, so feel free to be expressive. You could paint symbols of release (like falling leaves or water flowing).

  3. Scorpio is a water sign, so consider using deep blues, purples, or even black to represent this energy. Draw symbols and plant or animal magic you associate with transformation, release, growth and rebirth. You can also draw symbols or incorporate plants and animals and words that embody your commitment and dedication.

  4. Conclude with a closing statement, something like: “I commit to this transformation.” or “I commit to becoming who I need to be to invite these changes into my life.” Visualize yourself walking through a doorway or past a threshold or walking across a bridge, leaving behind what no longer serves and stepping into your new beginning.

As you complete this ritual, take a moment to sit with your intentions and let them sink in. Scorpio’s energy is all about emotional depth and the willingness to undergo powerful changes. Embrace the feeling of stepping into a new phase, knowing that you’ve taken the time to discern and fully commit to what matters most.
