Art Journal with the Moon: Themes and Prompts for February 17-23, 2025

In this post, I share a summary of the moon for the week of February 17-23, 2025 as it moves through the zodiac and interacts with the planets. I also invite you to work with Pisces energy in your art journal to play and heal.

The Moon This Week

Hello Pisces season!

This week, the Pisces area of your birth chart is receiving a lot of love and attention. The sun moves into Pisces on Tuesday and Mercury is there as well and Saturn and Neptune have been hanging out there for a while already but then, next week, the new moon will come in to amplify this Pisces party.

I have the perfect course for this time of the year because it helps you work with this amplified Pisces energy in your art journal to develop and play with your intuition. It’s called ART JOURNAL WITH THE PISCES NEW MOON TO PLAY WITH YOUR INTUITION. You can learn more about it here but first, let’s talk a little about Pisces season and how trauma interrupts our connection to the divine (and each other) and how playing in your art journal can help you heal.

Pisces as Mystical Connection

Pisces energy is about deep emotional connection—with ourselves, with each other, and with the divine. It’s the energy of oneness, where the boundaries between you and the world around you begin to blur, and you realize that you are not separate from love, wisdom or divine guidance.

Pisces is a water sign, which means it moves through the world with feeling, intuition, and deep emotional sensitivity. Water is fluid, adaptable, and responsive—it takes the shape of whatever it touches. That’s why Pisces energy can feel so deeply connected to others. It has the ability to sense unspoken emotions, absorb the energy of a room, and understand things without needing words. It reminds us that connection is not just about what we say or do, but about what we feel and how we hold space for one another.

Under Pisces energy, we are more open to divine messages, synchronicities, and intuitive knowing. This is why Pisces is often linked to mysticism, spirituality, and creative inspiration—it reminds us that there is so much more to this world than what we can see.

Pisces is symbolized by two fish swimming in opposite directions, representing the constant movement between the material world and the spiritual world. This is the bridge between human emotion and divine wisdom, between logic and intuition, between earthly struggles and higher guidance. It reminds us that we are always moving between these realms, whether we realize it or not.

Surrender, Let Go and Trust

Because of this, Pisces energy asks us to trust, surrender, and open our hearts. It invites us to let go of rigid control and allow ourselves to be guided—whether that’s by our intuition, by spirit, or by the flow of life itself. It’s the energy of deep faith, the kind that doesn’t require proof but is felt in the bones, in the heart, in the soul.

And yet, for all its wisdom and spiritual insight, Pisces energy is also incredibly human. It understands pain, longing, loss, and love. It feels everything so deeply that sometimes it wants to escape—through daydreaming, fantasy, or avoiding reality. But the true gift of Pisces is in allowing ourselves to fully feel and recognize that feeling is what connects us.

When you work with Pisces energy, whether through the moon, art, or spiritual practice, you are opening yourself up to something vast, something timeless, something deeply loving. You are strengthening your ability to trust yourself, trust your emotions, and trust in the unseen forces that are always guiding you.

What If You Don’t Feel Connected?

I’ve been thinking a lot about Pisces season and how this energy helps us bridge the material and spiritual realms—how it reminds us that we are connected to each other and the divine.

But what if your heart feels closed off?

What if your inner parts feel protective and you struggle to feel safe enough or loved enough to open to connection with others or the divine?

I feel this way sometimes.

My intuition, creativity and connection to the divine feels strong so I don’t feel it there, but as I move out of crisis mode after years of navigating anaphylaxis and extreme sensitivity, I’m seeing just how much of a toll this has taken on my social life, friendships, and sense of connection. My most intimate relationships are still amazing and intact (thank goddess), but I feel like my world has become smaller than I want it to be. Sometimes I feel lonely, and I miss adventure and spontaneity, but I also feel like I’m living in a body without skin—too sensitive, too easily overwhelmed, too emotionally fragile to open to connection in the way I used to.

I don’t have the emotional capacity to attend events I wish I could go to, not to mention the physical barriers that come with my chemical sensitivities. And I’ve built a wall around my heart, not because I want to keep people out, but because I don’t feel safe.

I want to be clear here – my block in connecting with others isn’t about social anxiety. I used to feel blocked in connecting with others because of that but not anymore (at least not in the last five years). I can’t believe how much has changed for me when it comes to social anxiety. For years, socializing was incredibly stressful—it would send me into a trauma response – even for family events. But that’s just not my reality anymore. Working with the MAP Method has completely transformed this for me. It’s like I’m a whole new person.

What keeps my system on edge now is the fear that if I have an anaphylactic reaction, no one will be able to help me. It’s the worry that I can’t control my environmentwhat if someone is wearing perfume? What if I react to something unexpected? It’s these unknowns that keep my nervous system on high alert, making connection and community feel unsafe on a deep, physical level.

And beyond that, my emotional resilience is low right now. I can overreact, feel scared, or get pulled into a trauma response too easily. My system is still learning how to trust itself again. It’s like I need a slow, gentle approach to everything, but the world isn’t exactly built for the kind of extreme sensitivity I’m still experiencing.

That being said, I am getting stronger every single day. I haven’t felt this good in twenty years, and I know I’m on the right track. But healing is layered, and this is the layer I’m working on now—rebuilding my ability to feel safe in connection, to trust my nervous system, and to open my heart again.

And on the friendship end of things, I still have old hurt and abandonment wounds that need tending to. Now that I actually have the energy and strength, I can finally give myself the care and attention these parts of me need. But like all good healing, it will take time, patience, and gentleness—and I’m okay with that. I’m just honoring where I’m at, letting myself move at my own pace.

The Desire to Heal

But the thing is…I don’t want to stay small.

I don’t want my life to feel small.

I don’t want to push experiences, people and opportunities away because I’m not strong enough to handle them.

The healing path is ever-changing and so I know I won’t always be here – at this place where I have to move forward so slowly and gently -, and I also know I couldn’t feel this desire for expansion and connection even a year ago. I had other priorities – health priorities. My time and energy were swallowed up by learning how to navigate my body’s needs. Staying small was appropriate and necessary. It was healing. But things have changed.

I have worked so hard to regain my physical strength—I am so much more resilient than I was. However, now that I don’t have to focus all my energy on simply surviving, I’m realizing how much I still need to heal emotionally – how much I still need to learn how to trust connection again.

And is it only a coincidence that I’m realizing this in Pisces season? I don’t think so.

How Trauma Interrupts Connection

I’m sharing this because no one explained to me what happens after years of hypervigilance, how it doesn’t just fade the moment you’re safe, how it lingers in your body, in your relationships, in your ability to connect with others and feel at ease in the world.

Although my hypervigilance has been years—decades—in the making, stretching all the way from early childhood into my forties, shaped by both emotional wounds and the unpredictable reactions of my body, I know I’m not the only one. I know I’m not the only one who has struggled with the invisible consequences of living on high alert for so long.

Hypervigilance is a survival response. It keeps you scanning for danger, anticipating what could go wrong, preparing for the worst—because at some point in your life, that was necessary.

But what happens when the danger is gone?

What happens when the constant need to protect yourself isn’t needed anymore—but your body doesn’t know that yet?

For me, it has affected my relationships the most—not my closest, most intimate relationships, but my friendships, my social life, my sense of connection to community.

If you’re wondering if you’ve been experiencing the consequences of hypervigilance in your relationships, here’s how it might look:

  • Feeling too emotionally fragile to open up to people.
  • Struggling to trust because you’ve been hurt.
  • Wanting connection but feeling too easily overwhelmed to pursue it.
  • Avoiding social events—not because you don’t want to go, but because the idea of navigating them feels scary or exhausting.
  • Feeling like you’re on the outside of belonging, watching other people connect easily while you hesitate.
  • Holding back from friendships because you’re afraid of being too much or not enough at the same time.
  • Noticing that even when you do connect, you struggle to fully relax and feel safe.

Is Your Heart Open to the Divine?

Maybe you’ve felt it too. Maybe you’ve sensed that even in moments when you should feel safe, something inside you still doesn’t trust that you are.

Maybe you too have noticed inner parts that block and protect – defend and resist.

It happens in your relationship with the Divine or the spirit world as well. Your relationship to divine love or your spirit guides, angels or ancestors is affected by the need to protect yourself like any other relationship in your life.

Hypervigilance isn’t just about scanning the world for physical danger—it can also deeply affect your intuition and your connection to the divine or the realm of spirit. When you’ve spent so many years on alert, always ready to protect yourself from harm, it becomes hard to relax enough to truly hear your inner voice or feel the guidance of spirit. Your body is stuck in survival mode, which can make it difficult to trust the gentle, quiet whispers of intuition that are trying to guide you.

When your nervous system is in overdrive, it’s hard to sense the gentle nudge of your intuition. That’s why so many highly sensitive people—especially those with a history of trauma—struggle to trust their gut or hear messages from their angels or spirit guides. Your intuition speaks in subtle ways, and if your senses are constantly heightened, those subtle messages can feel drowned out by the noise of fear, doubt, and overwhelm. It’s like trying to hear a soft voice in a room full of loud sounds. Your spirit is always there, always ready to guide you, but you may not feel safe enough to hear or trust what it has to say.

Have You Felt Abandoned by the Divine?

Or maybe you have a hard time experiencing that beautiful Pisces connection to the divine because you were hurt or disappointed by spirit, just like you might feel that way in human relationships when you’ve been let down or misunderstood. That feeling of being disconnected or forgotten can make it even harder to trust and open yourself to divine love or the spirit world.

Your inner parts might start resisting spirituality or connecting with your spirit guides and angels because they want to protect you from being hurt again—so they shut down, thinking it’s safer to stay distant. And much like any relationship where trust has been broken, it takes time and effort to rebuild that connection with the spirit world and feel safe being open again.

But What if We Start With Play?

This is what my online course “Art Journal with the Pisces New Moon to Play With Your Intuition” suggests – if you invite your heart and spirit to play, maybe it will soften. Maybe it will feel safe enough to open, even just a little more than it is now.

And so, this Pisces season I return to what I know: play.

Play is gentle. It doesn’t force or demand or push. It allows. It opens. It’s curious. It doesn’t have an agenda. It’s patient and willing to see where things will lead. It lets my heart move toward connection in a way that feels safe.

So, that’s how I’ll be working with this Pisces energy in my art journal—through play, through softness, through exploring where my heart wants to go when I give it permission to move freely.

And if you feel like there are parts of you that need space to soften, to open, to be held in a way that feels safe and to be given gentle opportunities to connect and trust again, I invite you to join me in the creative online course I created for this season.

Art Journal with the Pisces New Moon to Play with Your Intuition isn’t just about strengthening your intuitive gifts—it’s about giving yourself a place to bridge the worlds inside you, to let your creativity, emotions, and intuition work together to heal whatever is asking to be healed. Plus, I take you through the process of practicing a new moon ritual in your art journal for the Pisces new moon which takes place next week – and as always, there’s several powerful recordings that work with the MAP Method (these alone are worth the investment).

If you feel like working with the Pisces new moon to heal and play with your intuition, I’m currently offering this creative course for $10 OFF the regular cost.

Monday

The week kicks off with the disseminating moon moving into the sign of Scorpio and having a tense relationship with Pluto on Monday.

This is a time of release, reflection, and integration—a moment to sit with what the recent full moon illuminated, share whatever wisdom it taught you and begin to let go of what no longer serves you. Scorpio is a sign of transformation, truth, and emotional depth, so this moon phase encourages you to look inward and be radically honest with yourself.

What emotions have surfaced recently?

What truths are you finally ready to acknowledge?

Scorpio’s energy isn’t about surface-level change—it’s about deep, soul-level transformation. This moon invites you to shed old layers and trust in your ability to rise from the ashes, stronger and more aligned than before.

With the moon also having a tense relationships with Pluto, the planet of power, rebirth, and the subconscious, you may feel inner tension. Something hidden may be pushing its way into your awareness, asking to be dealt with. Pluto’s influence can feel intense, like an emotional purge, but it is ultimately here to help you reclaim your power. If resistance, fear, or old wounds are surfacing, don’t push them away—greet them with curiosity. This energy asks:

Where are you still holding on to control?

What fears are keeping you from stepping into your full power?

What old patterns are keeping you small?

If you feel resistance to letting something go, try writing it down and covering it with paint or collage—layering over it as a way to symbolically reclaim your power and create space for new energy to emerge.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents reclaiming your power.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, the moon is in the sign of Scorpio.

When the moon is in the sign of Scorpio, it brings a deep, intense energy. The moon represents your emotions, instincts, and the subconscious, while Scorpio is known for its depth, intensity, and focus on transformation. This combination invites deep emotional insights and powerful spiritual transformations.

On a day when the moon is in Scorpio, the energy it reflects down to us is one of deep introspection and emotional intensity. It’s a time when feelings we usually keep hidden might surface, giving us the chance to confront and understand them better. This can be a period of significant emotional healing, as Scorpio’s influence encourages us to look beneath the surface and explore the depths of our inner selves. Spiritually, this energy can lead to transformative growth, pushing you to let go of old patterns or beliefs that no longer serve you and embrace rebirth and renewal.

During this time, you might feel more sensitive, intuitive, and connected to the unseen realms of your psyche. It’s an excellent opportunity for any work that involves diving deep into your emotions, such as therapy, meditation, or reflective journaling like we do when we art journal with the moon.

To align with this energy and support your emotional healing and spiritual growth, consider asking yourself the following questions:

What emotions or memories have I been avoiding, and why?

In what areas of my life am I seeking deeper truth and transformation?

How can I release what no longer serves me to make space for new growth?

What parts of my shadow self need acknowledgment and understanding?

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents the emotions you have been ignoring lately.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, the moon is having a happy relationship with Saturn.

The moon being in a happy relationship with Saturn is a little like being with an emotionally wise person when you’re struggling.

An emotionally wise person can create a loving container by providing a safe, non-judgmental space for you to express your feelings. They listen actively and empathetically, without interrupting or trying to fix your problems. This allows you to feel heard and understood. They offer gentle encouragement and validation, acknowledging your emotions and reassuring you that it’s okay to feel what you’re feeling.

Being with someone who has emotional wisdom supports you in processing and expressing your feelings because they model healthy emotional behavior. Their calm and grounded presence can help you feel more secure and less overwhelmed by your emotions. They might ask thoughtful questions that guide you to explore your feelings more deeply and gain insight into your emotional experiences. This supportive interaction helps you build emotional resilience and learn to navigate your feelings with greater clarity and confidence.

In their presence, you learn that it’s safe to be vulnerable and that your emotions are valid.

What feelings do you need help moving through today?

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents a loving container for your difficult emotions.

Thursday

With the moon moving into the sign of Sagittarius, Thursday brings an expansive and optimistic energy.

Sagittarius is ruled by the planet Jupiter so it’s carrying a little of that planet’s good energy as well.

Sagittarius is a fire sign. It is expressive and positive and humorous, optimistic, adventurous, experimental, adaptive, passionate and fun but it can be focused on too many things. Sagittarius energy likes to help us grow and enjoy ourselves through experiencing all life has to offer. It focuses on personal growth, freedom, expansion, lived experience, learning through trying and doing and embodiment. It’s a curious energy that asks questions and looks for answers.

Let’s use this Sagittarius energy to think about the possibilities of today.

If today could go better than you expected, what would that look and feel like?

When you go to sleep tonight, what would you celebrate and be grateful for?

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents a day going better than you expected.

Friday

On Friday, the moon is still in the sign of Sagittarius.

The waning moon is a time for reflection, release, and gratitude, focusing on what we’ve learned and how we can share that knowledge with others. Sagittarius, on the other hand, is a sign associated with exploration, adventure, and the pursuit of truth and wisdom. Together, these energies encourage us to look inward for growth and understanding.

Sagittarius likes philosophical reflection and a quest for meaning. When the moon is in this sign, it’s a good time to consider your beliefs, the experiences that have shaped them, and how you can use this wisdom to guide your future actions.

Emotionally, this can be a period of liberation, as you’re encouraged to let go of outdated beliefs or perceptions that may be holding you back. Spiritually, the moon in Sagittarius invites you to seek higher understanding and connect with the BIG and BOLD visions you have for your life.

This moon phase and moon sign combination also invites you to explore your place in the wider world and how you can contribute to it in meaningful ways.

What is the impact you want to make on your community?

What skills do you want to learn in order to better serve your community?

What do you think your community will need in the coming years and how can you help meet those needs?

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents how you want to contribute to your community in the coming years.

Saturday

On Saturday, the moon is in the sign of Sagittarius.

The last quarter moon, also known as the third quarter or waning half-moon, is the second to last phase in the moon’s monthly cycle. The moon’s light is waning, drawing inward once more. The last quarter moon stands as a symbolic crossroads, a time of reflection, release, and inner transformation.

The last quarter moon is viewed as a time of introspection and surrender. As the moonlight diminishes, we too are invited to draw inwards and assess our inner landscapes. It’s a period of letting go, symbolizing the release of old beliefs, habits, or emotional baggage that no longer serve us.

Emotionally, this phase is about acceptance and forgiveness. We are encouraged to make peace with our past, cultivate forgiveness towards ourselves and others, and create space for new possibilities and growth.

To enhance your experience of the last quarter moon, consider these questions:

What lessons have I learned in this past moon cycle?

What am I ready to let go of?

How have I grown and changed over this moon cycle?

Who or what do I need to forgive to move forward?

What seeds of intention do I want to plant for the next cycle?

The last quarter moon invites you to pause, look inward, and clear away what no longer serves you. As you align with this lunar rhythm, you nurture your ability to adapt, release, and prepare yourself for new beginnings.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage images that represents what you need to let go of before you consider what seeds of intention you want to plant during the next cycle.

Sunday

On Sunday, the moon is in the sign of Capricorn.

In ancient astrology, Capricorn is an earth sign, which emphasizes stability, responsibility, and practicality and highlights such qualities as groundedness, persistence, and a strong connection to the physical and natural world.

The Crone archetype, which I like to think of as embodied by the wise old woman, and Hecate, the goddess of magic, crossroads, and deep intuition, both reflect Capricorn’s spiritual depth. These figures represent wisdom that comes with experience, the ability to navigate transitions and endings, and the power to transform and rebirth. The moon in Capricorn activates these archetypes, urging us to embrace the wisdom of letting go, the importance of life’s cycles, and the value of introspection and inner guidance.

The moon in Capricorn teaches us about the cycle of life—acknowledging that endings are a natural and necessary part of growth and transformation. It encourages you to respect the process of aging, to honor the wisdom that comes with experience, and to understand the power of your own inner guidance as you navigate the complexities of life.

It’s a time to set realistic goals, to plan for the future with a clear and practical mind, and to honor the wisdom you’ve gained through your life’s challenges and transitions. The energy of Capricorn invites you to build a solid foundation, to respect the limits of the physical world, and to work patiently and persistently towards your goals.

Engaging in practices in your art that connect you to the earth, such as painting leaves, gardens, or crystals, can help you tap into Capricorn’s grounding energy. You can also reflect on your life’s journey and acknowledge the lessons you’ve learned.

The moon in Capricorn is also a time to honor the wisdom of age, the necessity of endings, and the transformative power of introspection and practical planning. By grounding yourself, respecting the cycles of life, and aligning your actions with your inner wisdom, you can navigate life’s challenges with grace and build a strong, stable foundation for your future.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents an ending that is happening in your life or in your inner world.
