Art Journal with the Moon: Themes and Prompts for May 19-25, 2025

In this post, I share a summary of the moon for the week of May 19-25, 2025 as it moves through the zodiac and interacts with the planets. I also talk about working with the magic of Gemini energy in your art journal when you’re a highly sensitive person with a history of trauma.

Working with Gemini Energy in Your Art Journal

There’s a lot of energy happening in the Gemini part of your birth chart this week and it’s leading up to a lot more again next week so let’s talk about Gemini energy and what to consider when you’re working with it as a highly sensitive person with a history of trauma.

On Tuesday, May 20, the sun moves out of the earthy, grounded sign of Taurus and into the light, curious energy of Gemini.

You might feel this shift in your body. The sun in Taurus is steady and slow. As my astrology teacher, Kelly Surtees, explained, like all earth signs, Taurus energy points us downward toward anchoring, stability and stillness. Taurus season helps us nourish the roots, get clear on our values, and build strength in the places where we feel shaky. But when the sun enters Gemini, it’s like someone unhooks the anchor and we float up into the air (I loved hearing her explain it this way and its probably because all my Gemini energy is so used to this feeling.) Gemini energy lifts, lightens, and starts to move again. It’s curious. It wants to play. It wants to connect.

Gemini is mobile, social, and outward in its orientation. It opens us up to the world again. It moves you toward discovery, conversation, experimentation, and learning. It’s that feeling of walking down the street and wondering, Who might I meet? What might I learn today? What ideas are out there waiting to inspire me?

The sun in Gemini invites you to engage with others, with your environment, with your own mind. It wants stimulation. It wants variety. It thrives on ideas, insight, and possibility. There’s a youthful quality to it because it’s exploratory, open-hearted, a little bit sparkly.

On Sunday, May 25, Mercury, the planet of communication, commerce, ideas, and connections, moves into Gemini as well.

Mercury is at home here, which means it operates with clarity and strength.

This is the energy of the scribe, the messenger, the teacher, the merchant, the pollinator.

Mercury in Gemini is excited about new information, bright ideas, interesting conversations, and unexpected insight. It’s the part of us that gathers and shares. It’s where we make connections and carry information from one place to another so it can grow and bloom in new ways just like bees in a garden. It’s the part of you that shares your stories in order to help others. It’s the part of your business where you move your art, your writing, your offerings or your creations from your hands and move it into the hands of those who you are meant to share it with.

Think of this next couple of weeks as a time to sort, update, and organize and especially in the parts of your life ruled by Gemini in your birth chart. You’re getting downloads and insights here. You’re seeing things in a new way. You’re connecting with the people, tools, or ideas that can help you improve, refine, or expand and again, especially in the Gemini areas of your life.

You might feel like you’re buzzing with potential. You might also feel like your brain is full of disconnected pieces that haven’t quite come together yet but don’t worry, in time they will. This is the process. The movement, the mingling, the mapping, the conversations and all of it is helping your inner wisdom come into form so it can be shared with others.

Gemini Energy and HSPs

For highly sensitive people, especially those of us who are trauma survivors or who tend to feel easily overwhelmed, Gemini energy can be both exhilarating and disorienting. The increase in mental activity, the hunger for stimulation, the buzz of social interaction, the spiritual downloads, the insights and inspiration can bring joy and excitement, but it can also make you feel scattered, ungrounded, buzzy or anxious.

Gemini energy lights up the mind but for those of us who are highly sensitive, and especially if we carry trauma or emotional wounds from the past, that mental activation can sometimes feel too busy.

With Gemini, everything starts moving faster and that includes your thoughts, your conversations, the flow of information around you. It can be exciting and inspiring, but it can also be overwhelming. Your mind might feel like it’s buzzing with ideas, possibilities, and options, but instead of feeling clear and energized, you might feel scattered, anxious, or unsure of what to focus on.

This is one of the tricky things about Gemini season. It activates the incredible brilliance of your mind like your curiosity, your ability to connect ideas, your ability to communicate with unseen realms, your hunger to learn and understand but it can also stir up the wounds that live in your mind too like overthinking, ruminating, obsessing, doubting or worrying. These kinds of mind habits probably formed when you had to overthink everything to feel safe and when you believed you always have to be doing more or getting it right just to be okay.

In this buzzy head space, you ask yourself questions like, Am I doing enough? Is this the right direction? What if I choose wrong? Why can’t I just pick one thing and stick with it? These kinds of thoughts aren’t just about indecision, they often come from a deeper place of not having felt safe, supported, or validated. You might have learned to use your mind to protect yourself, to figure things out on your own, or to be ten steps ahead so you didn’t get hurt again. That’s a form of brilliance too because your mind learned to survive. But now, when the Gemini energy turns up the volume, it can activate those old survival patterns and make you feel like you’re spinning or falling behind.

So this week, I don’t want you to feel like you have to quiet your mind or make it stop. I want you to honor it. I want you to work with it. I want you to let Gemini’s magic help you see what’s in your mind so you can gently learn more about your inner world and choose what matters most and let the rest float away.

Because underneath the noise, your mind is a sacred tool. It holds stories, ideas, and wisdom that are meant to be shared. You don’t have to be afraid of the noise. You just need a way to anchor yourself inside it and playing in your art journal with the moon this week is a perfect way to do that.

Gemini Energy and Your Nervous System

Gemini energy is also amazing at helping you connect to spirit, receive messages and work with your intuition but dancing in the realms between spirit and the earth can be difficult on your nervous system.

I wish someone had explained my nervous system to me when I was in my twenties and started receiving messages from the angels. I really do. I wish someone had said, “You’re highly sensitive. You’re deeply intuitive. And you absorb more than you know and not just emotions from the people around you, but energy, stress, tension, grief. Your body is feeling all of it, even when you don’t realize it and you don’t know yet how to attune to it, process it or release it and let it go so you’re storing it all in your body and in your energy field and in your subconscious mind and it is getting heavy and your body is getting confused and overwhelmed and doesn’t know what to do with all the energy and information you’re holding onto.”

I also wish someone had helped me understand that growing up around chronic anxiety and emotionally dysregulated people shaped my nervous system to always be on high alert and that my sensitivity wasn’t the problem, it was the part of me that needed the most care.

Back then, I didn’t understand any of that. So when inspiration hit or spiritual messages came through and they did, often and vividly and accompanied by intense emotions, I didn’t know how to ground and process and release it all. I didn’t know how to take care of my body or pace myself through all that light and movement. I would get swept up in the energy of Spirit, in the rush of insight, in the creative downloads and excitement and then crash hard. My system couldn’t handle all that spiritual and emotional input all at once. It was like opening every window in the house during a windstorm.

Yes, the ideas were beautiful.

Yes, the connection to Spirit was real.

But my body was already full of the past and didn’t have capacity for more.

I didn’t yet know how to be a safe place for the light to land.

Now I understand more. I’ve come to see how my nervous system needs care and containment. It needs boundaries and structure, and it needs to process and release every single day and sometimes multiple times a day and especially during times when the energy is extra fast and stimulating, like it will be during these next couple weeks of strong Gemini energy. I’ve learned this not just through my healing journey, but also through living with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome.

My mast cells respond fiercely to stimuli, even subtle ones. My body is incredibly sensitive to stress, energy, emotion and that includes spiritual energy too. I now know that my sensitivity is a kind of spiritual intelligence, but it needs structure. It needs grounding. It needs rhythm and rest and space to process what I receive. Otherwise, even the most beautiful inspirations leave me feeling depleted and inflamed.

So as we move into these two weeks of Gemini energy, where so much light and insight will be flying around, and your mind might be full of buzzing ideas and spiritual messages, I want to offer you this: you can open to the magic without abandoning your body. You can connect with Spirit, receive downloads, get inspired, and follow the intuitive breadcrumbs without overriding your nervous system.

You don’t have to move faster than your body is ready for.

You don’t have to chase every idea or say yes to every conversation.

Gemini’s magic is real. It can help you hear the messages that want to be shared through your art, your writing, your business. It can help you recognize the idea you’ve been waiting for. It can help you receive insight from your spirit allies. But my Gemini lesson, and maybe it’s yours too this week, is that receiving divine messages is more fun and supportive when you have the inner container to hold them.

So this week, open your heart and mind and float away to those amazing places Gemini energy wants to take you but stay rooted in your body while you do it.

Journal, create, move, rest, and listen not just to Spirit, but to the quieter voice of your own nervous system when it asks you to slow down, process and integrate or release.

You’re allowed to be inspired and sensitive. You’re allowed to receive and regulate. That’s the kind of magic we’re practicing now.

Monday

The week kicks off with the disseminating moon in Aquarius having a happy relationship with Jupiter on Monday.

Both of the moon and Jupiter are in air signs and when air signs are in harmony like this, there’s a lift to the energy. It feels clearer, more mentally stimulating, and open. Air in astrology is all about the mind, communication, ideas, connection, breath, and the winds of change. It moves swiftly. It inspires. And it carries messages. Sometimes these messages come from Spirit, sometimes from your own deeper wisdom, and sometimes from the collective.

Today, it’s like the wind is whispering, “You’re allowed to think bigger. You’re here to be inspired. You’re invited to inspire and uplift others. You’re allowed to share your stories and speak the truth of who you really are.”

For entrepreneurs, this is a powerful day to reconnect with your ideas, especially the ones that feel electric, alive, and like they’re meant to be shared. Jupiter expands what it touches, and in Gemini, it wants to expand your voice, your learning, your curiosity, and your ability to make connections both with people and between ideas, stories and messages. And with the moon in Aquarius, there’s a visionary, future-forward tone. Aquarius wants to break patterns, see things differently, and find innovative ways of doing business, especially for the greater good.

This is beautiful energy to work with if you’re building a heart-led business that’s meant to ripple out and make an impact.

The magic of air is often subtle but powerful. It rules breathwork, spells spoken aloud, messages sent with intention and prayers carried on the wind. In your everyday life, working with air magic might look like writing out or painting out your dreams and then speaking them aloud, lighting incense and sending a blessing into the wind, or focusing on your breath to quite your mind and make space for inspiration. In your art journal, air magic becomes real through words, symbols, color choices that feel light or bright, or even by drawing feathers, birds, wind, or wings and anything that feels like movement and freedom.

Today, in your art journal, ask yourself: What message wants to move through me today, and who is it meant to reach?

Create a page that invites your inner visionary forward.

Like Aquarius magic, your inner visionary is the part of you that can see the bigger picture. It’s the part of you that dreams about what’s possible and imagines a future that feels more aligned, beautiful, and true.

It’s like your inner guide who holds a lantern up ahead and quietly says, “This way.” You might not always know exactly how to get where it wants to take you, but this part of you sees the path and the next indicated step even when it’s still just a whisper of a feeling or an idea.

You might think of this part of yourself as your core self, your Higher Self, your future self, your inner leader or your intuitive self.  It’s the wisest, most spiritually aligned version of you. It’s the creative spirit within you that pulls inspiration and ideas from the Divine. It’s the quiet inner knowing that comes from your deepest truth. It’s the version of you who already lives the life you’re working toward. It’s the part of you that’s clear, steady, and courageous and the part of you that’s connected to Spirit, Source and the force of Love that animates all life. It’s that felt-sense that guides you even when it doesn’t use words. It’s the emotional and soulful intelligence that leads you with kindness and care.  It’s your imaginative, possibility-seeing self that dares to want more. The creative spirit in you and the alive, expressive part of you that needs to make and share.

All of these are different ways of naming the same kind of presence within you – the part that sees what’s possible, believes in something better, and invites you to step into it.

Your inner visionary isn’t loud or pushy. It’s more like a soft but steady voice inside that speaks through your daydreams, your hopes, your art, your curiosity, the sensations in your body and your desire to make something meaningful with your life. It often shows up when you’re journaling, creating, resting, or giving yourself space to imagine what could be instead of what has always been. Even if you’ve doubted yourself or struggled to trust your ideas in the past, this part of you is always there, ready to help you shape your business, your art, or your life in a way that reflects your soul.

As you work in your art journal today, let yourself follow a spark of inspiration. Maybe it’s a business idea, a message you want to share, a piece of writing or art you’ve been dreaming of creating. Let air magic flow through you and onto the page. You don’t have to have it all figured out just yet. This is a day to be in conversation with your intuition, your imagination, and the wisdom of the wind. Let yourself be surprised by what shows up on the page. Let it speak. Let it move.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image of wings that carry a message that you’re meant to share.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, the last quarter moon moves into the sign of Pisces and Gemini season begins as the sun moves into the sign of Gemini.

I tend to see the last quarter moon as a crossroads of sorts. It’s when half the moon is lit up and half the moon is dark. It reminds me of choices and paths that open up when you make a decision.

The last quarter moon is also the time when the moon and the sun are in a tense relationship astrologically speaking. It’s symbolic of your emotional self or your inner world (the moon) being at odds with your spirit, your identity or the way you shine in the world (the sun).

This kind of tension creates growth. It invites you to make a decision. To reflect. To release. To choose one way of being over another. To choose one version of your future over another. To resolve the inner tension between who you are and how you feel, between what you want to create and what still needs clearing in order to move forward or between the future your soul wants to pull you toward and the past your inner parts are still carrying.

This kind of tension between the moon and sun can show you the inner parts that need tending to (your younger inner child parts, your past life parts or your ancestral parts). When you tend to these inner parts and meet the emotional needs they never received and help them process, digest and release the emotions they are carrying, they can learn to feel safe enough to allow your soul to lead the way instead of trying to hold you back. They don’t hold you back because they are mean. They often try to hold you back because they believe keeping you safe is the most important thing and the familiar feels safe to them even when it doesn’t always align with who you really are deep in your core.

The Pisces moos is a deeply intuitive, dreamy, and spiritual energy that can help you attune to your inner world and tend to these parts. Pisces also invites you to trust the invisible threads of your life and especially the ones that don’t always make logical sense but feel right in your body and spirit. Jupiter is all about wisdom, expansion, and meaning, so ask yourself:

What wisdom have I gathered during this lunar cycle?

What emotional truth is ready to surface so I can finally let go of something that no longer serves my higher path?

Adding to the richness of this day is the fact that the sun moves into Gemini. Now both the sun and Jupiter are in the same sign, which creates this interesting energy where Gemini wants to analyze, share, and communicate while Pisces wants to dissolve, feel, and surrender.

It’s the classic tension between head and heart, between what you know and what you feel. If you’re an entrepreneur, this is an important check-in point. Your ideas might be flowing fast and your mind might be racing ahead, but your emotional world may need a pause to catch up. You might feel the pressure to move forward in your business or make things happen, but the moon is saying, “Wait. There’s something more tender here. Something unseen that needs tending first.”

In your art journal, this is a beautiful moment to create a page about the shift you’re moving through. Ask yourself: What am I emotionally ready to let go of so I can mentally and spiritually move forward with more clarity?

Let your page hold both the Piscean softness and tenderness and the Gemini spark and movement. Let yourself feel the tension between emotion and logic, between dreams and plans.  Let the page become a conversation between your head and your heart. That’s where the magic is today.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents a conversation between your head and heart.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, the last quarter moon in Pisces is having a happy relationship with Mercury who is currently in the sign of Taurus.

This is a really lovely energy that helps bridge the gap between your intuitive, dreamy side and your grounded, practical mind. Pisces is all about the unseen, the emotional, the spiritual layers of your experience, while Mercury in Taurus brings steady thinking, practical problem-solving, and a gentle, grounded pace. When the moon and Mercury are working well together like this, it creates an opportunity to bring the feelings you’ve been swimming in down to earth and actually do something with them. The same can be said for your intuitive feelings or any spiritual downloads you’ve been receiving lately. Today is a good day to consider which of those spiritual downloads you want to follow through with and bring into form and which do you want to put aside or save for another time.

As a highly sensitive entrepreneur, this can be such a helpful moment. You might be feeling a little vulnerable or tender with the moon in Pisces, especially since it’s in the last quarter phase which is a time that’s about clearing, reflecting, and preparing to start fresh in the next lunar cycle.

But Mercury in Taurus is like a calm hand on your back saying, “Let’s take it one step at a time. Let’s make something real and solid from all this emotional or spiritual insight.” Maybe you’ve been sensing a shift in your business or feeling a new idea brewing. This is the kind of energy that helps you gently name it, organize it, and start giving it shape.

In your art journal, ask yourself:

What quiet truth am I ready to bring into form?

Let the moon in Pisces help you feel your way through the emotional or spiritual part of the answer, and let Mercury in Taurus guide you to translate that feeling into something clear, simple, and doable.

Maybe it’s a message you want to share with your audience. Maybe it’s a decision you’ve been avoiding that you’re ready to make now. Maybe it’s a new offering you’re ready to plant the first seeds for. Use soft, dreamy colors alongside grounding symbols like roots, earth, stones, or anything that helps you feel steady. Let this page be a bridge between your soul and your strategy.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents an idea, truth or feeling you’re ready to bring into form.

Thursday

On Thursday, the moon moves into the sign of Aries but as it does it has a lot of relationships with other planets.

I see the moon as being on quite a profound and meaningful journey today. We’re still in the last quarter phase of the moon, which is a time for reflection, release, and preparation before the next new moon begins a new cycle. But what makes today so powerful is where the moon is traveling in the sky and the kinds of energies it’s reflecting down to us.

The moon starts off in the very last degrees of Pisces and makes a square to Jupiter in Gemini. That can stir up some internal pressure. It’s kind of like your mind wants to go one way (big ideas, quick thoughts, new plans) while your emotions are still trying to stay present with what’s finishing or fading away. Then, right before moving into Aries, the moon has a sextile with Uranus in Taurus, which brings a bit of spark and innovation to the mix. You might feel like you suddenly see something from a new angle, or get a flash of insight that helps you let go of something old in order to welcome something new.

But then comes the heart of this lunar journey when the moon moves through that sacred threshold between the very end of Pisces and the very beginning of Aries. We’ve been talking about this space for weeks now because so many planets have been lighting it up. And here comes the moon again, gently passing through it and stirring the energy once more. As it crosses this threshold, the moon conjoins Saturn in the very last degree of Pisces while Saturn is preparing to leave this sign for the first time in two years so this is a pretty big energetic moment. It’s a closing ceremony of sorts. Saturn in Pisces asked you to grow through surrender, spiritual maturity, emotional boundaries, and sacred responsibility. The moon meeting Saturn here is like a blessing or farewell from this season of lessons.

Then, almost immediately, the moon meets Neptune in the very first degree of Aries. Neptune has only just entered Aries, so the moon is activating a brand new spiritual beginning. This is the moment when you might feel the emotional weight of what you’ve just been through, and the spark of inspiration or calling toward who you’re becoming. It’s that sacred in-between moment of goodbye and hello. Finally, the moon forms a sextile to Pluto in Aquarius which is another powerful planet of transformation in a new sign, reminding you that the transitions in your life, your relationships and your career right now are about claiming your power and stepping more fully into the next chapter of your life.

As an entrepreneur, this lunar moment is reminding you that deep healing and transformation often come right before bold new beginnings. You may be feeling the push-pull between closing out a chapter in your business. Maybe there is an old way of doing things, or an identity you’ve outgrown and stepping into something new that feels more aligned with your future. But you don’t have to rush this transition. Today is about honoring the threshold, holding space for both the goodbye and the becoming.

In your art journal, ask yourself: What am I standing on the threshold of?

What changes and transitions are happening in my life right now?

Once again, create a two-page spread if you feel called where one page is for what you’re letting go of or what is finishing, and the other page is for what you’re beginning to envision or sense ahead. Let yourself slow down and honor the sacredness of this moment. Use imagery or colors that feel soft and dissolving for the Pisces energy, and symbols of fire, light, or courage for the Aries energy. This moon is a guide across the veil between old and new so let it show you what you’re ready to release, and what new people and experiences you’re ready to welcome in now.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents what is finishing in your life and the new beginnings you are starting to envision now.

Friday

On Friday, the balsamic moon in Aries is having a close relationship with Venus and a happy relationship with Mars.

Today the moon is drawing down some bold, heart-centered energy. She’s nestled up next to Venus in Aries, and together they’re in a happy relationship with Mars in Leo. This is a beautiful wave of energy that’s reminding you that you’re allowed to want what you want and you’re allowed to go after it with heart, courage, and devotion. The balsamic moon is always a time of release, reflection, and softening before the next new moon cycle begins, but with Aries and Leo involved, there’s also fire in your belly and passion in your spirit. This is a quiet but potent moment to reconnect with the desires of your heart and spirit.

As a highly sensitive entrepreneur, this energy encourages you to gently release the fear or doubt that keeps you from being visible, bold, or creatively expressed in your business. Venus and Mars in fire signs want you to remember that you don’t have to dim your light or apologize for your passion. You can show up with softness and fire at the same time. That’s the kind of balance this moon is supporting you in holding. Let yourself be guided by love not obligation. Let your work feel like devotion not performance.

In your art journal today, create a page that answers the question: What parts of myself do I need to release so I can express my creative or spiritual fire more freely?

Use colors, shapes, or imagery that represent both your boldness and your tenderness. Let yourself feel the beauty of what it is you really want. Give yourself permission to want what you really want.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents what you want to go after with courage and devotion.

Saturday

On Saturday, the moves into the sign of Taurus.

Taurus is a fixed earth sign ruled by the planet Venus so the moon is carrying a little bit of that planet’s energy today as well.

Taurus energy is stable and secure. It brings an air of grace, calm, tolerance, tenacity, comfort, pleasure, grounding, safety and security. Depending on the way it affects you or the area of your life it influences the most, it may also bring laziness, inactivity or stubbornness but we’re going to work with the grounding, dependable, stable and secure energy of Taurus today.

Think of someone or a place in nature that makes you feel safe.

It could be someone you know or even a forest or a body of water that makes you feel held. Maybe its the feeling of being wrapped in the arms of someone you love or the feeling of sitting on a quiet beach watching the waves slowly roll in and out.

As somatic wisdom has taught me, your nervous system deeply benefits from dosing your field with feelings of safety. Taking care of your body includes caring for your nervous system and allowing it to remember what feeling calm and grounded is like even if you can only take in the feeling a teaspoon of it at a time. When you are able to achieve that feeling of safety its like medicine to your nervous system. It’s a warm liquid medicine that flows through your body and speaks to the energy and memories you hold there and reminds your entire system you can let go and relax because in this moment you are safe. Your brain can take a break. It doesn’t need to stay alert. It can put down the guards.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents feeling grounded, held and safe.

Sunday

On Sunday, the balsamic moon is in Taurus, and she’s in a tense relationship with Mars in Leo which means we’re being asked to slow down and listen before we charge ahead.

This is the final day before the new moon in Gemini, and the moon is gently encouraging us to pause and notice where we might be holding onto stubbornness, resistance, or pressure to push forward before we’re fully ready.

Mars in Leo wants to act, to shine, to take bold steps but the Taurus moon is saying, “Not so fast.” She’s asking you to root into what feels true and solid before you leap into something new. That tense energy between the moon and Mars creates friction that can feel like impatience or frustration, but it’s actually an invitation to tend to your inner world, your body and your nervous system and let your next step come from grounded clarity instead of urgency.

As a highly sensitive entrepreneur, you might feel this as a tug-of-war between wanting to take bold action in your business and needing to honor your capacity. Maybe you’ve been feeling the pressure to be visible, do more, or step into a bigger version of yourself but your body or your emotions are asking for something slower, softer, or more rooted. This is the kind of day where you want to check in with your motivations.

Are you moving from love or from fear?

Are you pushing because you’re inspired or because you’re afraid of being left behind?

In your art journal today, ask yourself:

What pressure am I ready to release so I can begin again from a more grounded, aligned place?

You might want to collage or paint an image that represents steadiness or strength. You could draw a tree with deep roots and let each root carry a word or symbol of something that nourishes you. Let the moon guide you to let go of anything that’s getting in the way of your peace so tomorrow, when the new moon in Gemini arrives, you’re ready to begin again from a place of calm clarity.

In your art journal, draw, paint or collage the image of a tree that feels grounded, rooted and calm

with love,
