Art Journal with the Moon: Themes and Prompts for November 25-December 1, 2024

In this post, I share a summary of the moon for the week of November 25-December 1, 2024 as it moves through the zodiac and interacts with the planets. I also share my thoughts on the Sagittarius new moon and how to work with it in your art journal to rewrite the stories you tell yourself about your life and your potential.

The Moon This Week

This week, we’re working with the waning moon until we arrive at the new moon in Sagittarius. The new moon happens in most time zones on December 1st but in the mountain time zone it is late at night on November 30th.

This is an optimistic, big dreaming, expansive new moon. It’s an invitation to reexamine the way you see yourself and the stories you tell about your life. Sagittarius is a sign of expansion, big dreams, and reaching beyond what you’ve ever thought was possible. This new moon’s energy encourages you to explore how your beliefs, narratives, and perspectives either support or hold you back from aligning with your highest vision for your life. It’s a powerful time to pause and ask yourself: Are the stories I tell about who I am in alignment with the version of myself I’m dreaming of becoming?

We all interpret life through filters shaped by our experiences, cultural conditioning, and social narratives. But what if you could look beyond those filters? What is your direct experience when you set aside the layers of conditioning? The Sagittarius new moon invites you to align your thoughts and beliefs with your higher knowing. This is a chance to reevaluate the narratives you’ve been holding onto and rewrite them in a way that reflects your truth and supports your big dreams.

Think of yourself as the editor of your life story. You have the power to choose how your experiences define you and what they mean about who you are. If the way you’ve been perceiving yourself feels too small, too stuck in the past, or misaligned with your dreams, this is the perfect moment to rewrite that story. What if your beliefs about yourself expanded to match your highest potential? What if you gave yourself permission to see your life through the lens of possibility instead of limitation?

This Sagittarius new moon is a chance to realign your inner world with the possibilities that await you. I talk more about how to work with this new moon energy in your art journal during Saturday and Sunday’s prompt.

Now let’s look at a more detailed summary of the moon’s energy this week, giving you an overview of what to expect as the moon moves through different signs and phases. However, if you’re looking for more specific ways to work with the moon’s energy each day, be sure to follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. Monday

The week kicks off with the last quarter moon in the sign of Libra having a happy relationship with Pluto and Mars on Monday which is good energy for emotional insight, balance, and the courage to take action. Libra energy is all about harmony, relationships, and seeking fairness, while Pluto’s influence adds depth and transformation. Pluto helps you look beneath the surface and see the truths you might have been avoiding, particularly in your relationships or areas where you seek balance. Mars, on the other hand, brings a fiery, action-oriented energy, giving you the drive and determination to make changes based on what you uncover.

Emotionally, this moon invites you to reflect on where you’ve been striving for balance in your life and whether that balance is truly serving you. Spiritually, it’s a moment to release anything that no longer aligns with your values or sense of inner peace. Pluto and Mars together encourage you to face what’s uncomfortable and take decisive action to create more harmony in your life. It’s about finding the courage to stand in your truth and make choices that feel right for your soul.

In your art journal, you can work with this energy by creating a page that explores the balance you want to create in your life. Reflect on these questions: Where in my life do I feel out of alignment or out of harmony? What truths do I need to confront in order to create more balance? What actions am I ready to take to transform areas of my life that feel stuck? Use colors, shapes, or symbols that represent balance, courage, and transformation, letting the energy of this moon guide you toward clarity and action.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, the last quarter moon in Libra is having a happy relationship with Jupiter and a tense relationship with Venus, which brings an interesting blend of expansive energy, relationship dynamics, and inner reflection. Libra encourages you to focus on fairness, beauty, and connection, especially in your relationships. With Jupiter, the planet of growth and abundance, this moon phase offers opportunities for emotional or spiritual expansion. Jupiter’s energy invites you to think big, dream boldly, and see the potential for growth in areas where you’re seeking harmony. It’s an uplifting and hopeful influence that encourages optimism and a sense of possibility.

However, the tense relationship with Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and values, may bring some tension or conflict, particularly in your relationships or in how you’re feeling about yourself. This aspect invites you to look closely at where your needs or desires may be clashing with the needs of others or where you might feel out of alignment with your own values. It’s an opportunity to reflect on what you truly value and to make choices that honor both your relationships and your authentic self.

Emotionally, this moon encourages you to embrace growth while addressing any discomfort or misalignment in your connections. Spiritually, it’s a chance to reevaluate how you give and receive love, both to yourself and others, and to find deeper clarity about what balance means to you.

In your art journal, you can work with this energy by creating a page that explores balance and expansion in your relationships or personal growth. Reflect on these questions: Where in my life do I feel tension between my desires and my relationships? How can I expand my sense of harmony while staying true to my values? What areas of my life are ready for growth and abundance?

Wednesday

On Wednesday, the moon is void of course for most of the day. A void of course moon sometimes happens when the moon is moving from one zodiac sign to another or when it’s not making any aspects with other planets – I think of it as though the moon is just hanging around alone and in the in-between space – no longer where it was but not yet where it will be. The moon likes reflecting energy down to us but when it’s void of course there’s nothing substantial for it to reflect so its reflecting that emptiness back to us. Embrace this pause, take a step back, and reflect. This period is not about making significant decisions or initiating new projects; rather, it’s a time for taking stock, for going inward, and for focusing on self-care and inner peace. On the flip side, it’s best to avoid initiating new projects, making important decisions, or embarking on significant endeavors during this period. The energy of the void of course moon is not conducive to starting new things; rather, it supports wrapping up loose ends and investing in self-care. Consider reflecting on these questions during a Void of Course Moon: What areas of my life require my attention, but I’ve been neglecting? How can I better care for my emotional well-being? What loose ends do I need to tie up before moving forward? It’s a gentle reminder from the cosmos that in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, taking time for yourself, for stillness and self-care, is not only beneficial—it’s essential.

Thursday

With the balsamic moon in the sign of Scorpio having a happy relationship with the planet Saturn and a tense relationship with Mars, Thursday offers a deeply introspective and transformative space. This is the phase of the moon where you’re called to release, surrender, and let go of what no longer serves you as the lunar cycle comes to an end. Scorpio’s energy adds an emotional depth to this process, encouraging you to dive into your inner world, confront hidden truths, and explore the parts of yourself that are ready for transformation. It’s a time to honor the emotional intensity that comes with endings and trust in the rebirth that will follow.

The happy relationship the moon is having with Saturn brings a grounding and stabilizing influence, reminding you to approach this inner work with patience and wisdom. Saturn encourages you to take responsibility for what you’re holding onto and to let go in a way that feels mature and intentional. It’s about creating a strong foundation for what’s to come by releasing what is no longer aligned with your values or your path.

The tense relationship the moon is having with Mars, on the other hand, may stir up tension or inner conflict. Mars is the planet of action and drive but in this kind of tense relationship it is having with the moon it can bring a feeling of frustration or urgency. You might feel a pull between the need to rest and release (the balsamic moon’s energy) and the desire to act or push forward (Mars energy). This tension is an opportunity to notice where impatience or anger might be bubbling up and to channel that energy in a way that supports your emotional healing.

This combination of energies asks you to face your inner shadows with courage and discipline. It’s a time to reflect on what’s worth fighting for and what you’re ready to lay to rest. It’s a chance to process and release lingering frustrations, regrets, or old wounds that have been weighing you down.

In your art journal, work with this energy by creating a page that symbolizes what you’re ready to release and transform. Use Scorpio’s depth and Saturn’s structure to bring clarity to what you’re letting go of, and allow Mars’ fire to represent the energy and determination you’re bringing to this process. Ask yourself: What is no longer serving me? What am I ready to transform? What inner battles am I ready to resolve?

Friday

On Friday, the balsamic moon is in the sign of Scorpio, it brings a deep, intense energy. The moon represents your emotions, instincts, and the subconscious, while Scorpio is known for its depth, intensity, and focus on transformation. This combination invites deep emotional insights and powerful spiritual transformations.

On a day when the moon is in Scorpio, the energy it reflects down to us is one of deep introspection and emotional intensity. It’s a time when feelings we usually keep hidden might surface, giving us the chance to confront and understand them better. This can be a period of significant emotional healing, as Scorpio’s influence encourages us to look beneath the surface and explore the depths of our inner selves. Spiritually, this energy can lead to transformative growth, pushing you to let go of old patterns or beliefs that no longer serve you and embrace rebirth and renewal.

During this time, you might feel more sensitive, intuitive, and connected to the unseen realms of your psyche. It’s an excellent opportunity for any work that involves diving deep into your emotions, such as therapy, meditation, or reflective journaling like we do when we art journal with the moon.

To align with this energy and support your emotional healing and spiritual growth, consider asking yourself the following questions:

What emotions or memories have I been avoiding, and why?

In what areas of my life am I seeking deeper truth and transformation?

How can I release what no longer serves me to make space for new growth?

What parts of my shadow self need acknowledgment and understanding?

Saturday and Sunday

As I mentioned earlier, the new moon in Sagittarius is a powerful time to expand your vision for your life and align how you see yourself with your biggest dreams. Sagittarius is the sign of the explorer, the seeker, and the philosopher. It encourages you to look beyond the limits you’ve set for yourself, to reexamine the beliefs and stories you carry about who you are and what’s possible for your life. This new moon is an invitation to challenge the narratives you’ve been telling yourself—especially the ones that feel limiting or outdated—and to rewrite those stories in a way that reflects your highest potential.

This new moon calls you to tap into your inner wisdom and ask, “What am I ready to believe about myself?” So often, we filter our experiences through the lens of conditioning, past wounds, or outdated self-perceptions. These filters shape the way we see the world and our place in it, but they don’t always reflect the truth of who we really are. Under this new moon, you’re invited to ask yourself: “What stories have I been telling myself about who I am? Are these stories helping me or holding me back? What would my life look like if I trusted in my potential and aligned my self-perception with the dreams I hold closest to my heart?”

This moon offers a moment of profound clarity. Sagittarius energy encourages you to step back and gain a wider perspective, like looking at your life from a mountaintop. It helps you see the patterns that have been shaping your life and gives you the courage to break free from those that no longer serve you. You are the editor of your life’s narrative. This moon is reminding you that you can rewrite your story in a way that matches your deepest desires and your truest self.

Magically, this is a wonderful time to work with your art journal as a tool for transformation. Begin by creating a page that represents the old stories you’re ready to release. What beliefs about yourself have you outgrown? What doubts or fears are you ready to leave behind? Use colors, symbols, or images that reflect this process of letting go.

Then, on a new page, start to weave the story you want to tell about yourself moving forward. What does your life look like when you fully believe in yourself and your dreams? Imagine yourself as the version of you who is already living those dreams. What do they think about themselves? What kind of energy do they carry? What beliefs fuel their actions? Use this page to visualize and anchor that energy into your life now.

This is a time to dream big, to let your intuition and higher self guide you. Sagittarius energy reminds you to be bold and to trust the part of you that knows you’re capable of great things. Set your intentions on this new moon with a sense of adventure and possibility, and let your art journal become a magical space where those intentions take root and grow.

If you need a little inspiration, here are some new moon pages I’ve created in my art journal in the past.
