Calling Lost Parts Back Home with the Autumn Equinox
In this post, I talk about the astrology for the week of September 22-28, 2025 and how it affects highly sensitive entrepreneurs. I also share an art spell for calling lost parts of yourself back home with the Autumn Equinox.

SAYING YES TO THE DESCENT AND LETTING THE LIGHT LEAD ME DOWNWARD
This week, before we dive into the astrology, I want to start with a story. It’s a story about a part of myself I lost long ago and how I am calling her home now.
It started with a block in my business. I could sense it wasn’t just logistical or strategic. I could tell it was deeper than that. Something inside me was resisting success and whenever I start building momentum, I sabotage myself.
When things in my business start flowing, something in my nervous system tightens. It feels like fear but not fear of failing. It feels like fear of receiving. I’ve noticed this before and it’s not unusual for people with a history of trauma and especially not unusual for people with a history of childhood SA such as mine. But this time I was able to be with my block in a new way. I was able to drop down further into the tightness and the resistance and get curious and move inward with it.
What I saw when I closed my eyes was a giant black root. It was thick and old and tangled deep in my imagination. I could feel it in my body. It felt like the root of something that’s been with me a long time.
Around this big, dark root I heard words like: “This is too much.” “I don’t want to be alone with this.” “Something here doesn’t feel safe.” “I’m tired of pretending I’m okay.”
And I knew exactly where that root came from because I saw a memory attached to it.
The Root of the Root
The old, rotten root was planted in my body when I was just four or five years old. I don’t remember everything from that time. Some memories dissolved to protect me but I do remember moments when I left my body.
I remember my body being in my bed in my room but my spirit being up near the ceiling, looking down. I remember my spirit choosing to look away. My spirit left my body because what was happening was too much to handle and it looked away because it was too much to witness. I didn’t like what was happening to me and so I left while it happened.
For years, I remember my spirit walking the ceiling of that house. I knew every dip, every beam, every shadow. That house and its ceiling was the landscape of my disassociation. That was the only thing I could do then…leave. Watch. Retreat. Adapt. In that house, I memorized the ceiling because that’s where I could be. I became familiar with the air, not the ground but at least I knew how to disappear.
Sometimes We Do Strange Things
What a strange thing for my spirit to do. Instead of being with my body when I was most scared, my spirit walked the ceilings of that house. I did it so often during that time that I now have vivid memories of walking that ceiling. I know exactly what it feels like to walk the ceilings of that house which I think is just so weird but I also now understand better why this was my experience.
What I understand now is that the black root I see in my mind is a symbol. It represents silence. Withdrawal. Depletion. It’s a part of me that says, “It’s not safe to be here.”
And as a sensitive, magical entrepreneur trying to root deeply into her calling… well, that root makes everything hard. Because it doesn’t trust the ground. That part of me says, “We’ve never been safe in the ground. That’s where the pain lives. There we had to survive alone. That’s what we need to disappear from.” My spirit doesn’t trust being rooted.
Moving Between Realms
Over the weekend, I took a course with Demetra George called Crossing Boundaries. It was a deep dive into the meaning of the autumn equinox and the roles that Hermes, Persephone, and Hekate play as boundary crossers, or in other words, figures who travel between the worlds. What she shared was exactly what I needed to hear. It helped me understand on a deeper level the image of the black tree root that feels like the origin of an emotional and energetic block I’ve been feeling in my business. That root has been revealing something sacred to me, and Demetra’s teaching gave me the language to hold it with more reverence.
In the myths, Hermes, Persephone, and Hekate are not confined to one realm. They move between the visible and invisible, the living and the dead, the divine and the earthly. All three of them guide souls through transitions. They are messengers and guardians who cross boundaries that most people can’t or don’t want to cross. And according to Demetra, the asteroids that bear their names often show up powerfully in the birth charts of shamans, intuitives, healers, and artists. These are people who’ve been asked to hold great complexity, and to retrieve what has been lost or buried.
Persephone in particular feels especially significant to me right now, as we move toward the autumn equinox. Her story is a descent. She’s taken from the world she knows and plunged into the underworld. But that isn’t the end of her story because it’s where she transforms. She goes from being a young girl to becoming a Queen. Now Persephone watches over souls and guides them through rebirth. She moves between the worlds, returning every year to the surface of the earth, bringing renewal and growth.
This journey of descent and return is not just a myth. It’s a part of how some of us heal.
When Persephone shows up strongly in a birth chart, it can reflect a personal mythology of trauma. It can mark a time in childhood when the world you thought was safe suddenly isn’t anymore. You’re abandoned, hurt, or taken and maybe not literally, but emotionally and you’re thrown into a darkness too big for your young self to handle.
One of the only ways to survive is to dissociate. A part of your spirit leaves your body. It finds safety in another place and maybe that’s in the underworld or maybe it is in the upper world but either way your body goes on growing, but emotionally, something stays frozen at that moment in time. That frozen part might show up years later in symptoms: anxiety, overwhelm, fatigue, food issues, chronic pain, difficulty trusting or connecting with others. It’s a soul loss that wants to be retrieved.
Welcome Them Home
That’s what I see now when I look at the black root in my inner world. It’s a message. A map. A place where a part of me splintered off long ago, and where I now have the opportunity to go back and retrieve her.
In shamanic terms, that’s what soul retrieval is. A healer or practitioner or sometimes, you yourself, enters a different state of awareness and travels to find the lost parts of your soul. Not to rescue them, but to welcome them home. To bring them back to your body and help them feel safe enough to live here again. And sometimes, that lost part didn’t even go to the underworld. Sometimes, it escaped to the upper world or a place of light and vision that felt safer than the dense world of pain and confusion. Either way, it’s still away from the body. And it’s still waiting to be returned.
Return as Healing
I’m realizing this is part of what Divine Mother meant when she said to me all those years ago, “Dana, we leave no part behind.” As she said this to me, she showed me an image of her scooping all parts of me in her arms.
Healing isn’t just about fixing symptoms. It’s about bringing these scattered pieces of myself back together. I’m seeing it as reaching across time, across dimensions, across memory and feeling. There’s a desire now to call home the parts of me that left because they had to. And I see healing now about becoming whole and not whole as in perfect or polished but whole as in all together now.
This, I believe, is Persephone’s gift. Those of us with early trauma sometimes began speaking with the spirit world long before we knew how to speak to humans. I’ve been communicating with angels and the energy of land for as long as I can remember even before the trauma. But I know the trauma shaped my nervous system in a way that made me even more sensitive to what’s invisible. I hear, feel and absorb more now. And yes, that’s hard on my physical body. But it’s also part of my soul magic.
Walking Through the Portal
Persephone teaches that those who descend have the power to return with wisdom. We become guides for others who can walk both worlds. We’ve lived through the fragmentation, and we’ve done the work of weaving ourselves back together. We know how to travel into the hidden places and into the pain, into the silence, into the parts no one wants to look at and come back with life.
And that’s why this week feels so sacred to me. The autumn equinox is not just a seasonal marker. It’s a portal.
In Hellenistic astrology, the west and the place where the sun sets wasn’t just the end of the day. It was a gateway. A passage into the underworld. In Egyptian cosmology, it symbolized the soul traveling through darkness on its journey of renewal.
This is that moment.
Descending with the Light
The light doesn’t abandon us. It leads us inward. The descent isn’t a punishment. It’s a calling. And I believe we all have parts that went underground (or overground) when it wasn’t safe to stay. Some of those parts might be afraid of being seen now. Some might be stopping you from rooting into your power or growing your business. But they’re not bad. They’re just trying to protect you the only way they know how. And we don’t have to force anything. We’re just here to witness and notice. That is all we need do for now.
In the northern hemisphere, with the autumn equinox the sun begins its descent. And like Persephone, we can begin our own descent as well. But this descent is not something to fear. It’s an invitation to become more whole, more integrated, and more powerful than we’ve ever been. The lost parts of you aren’t gone forever. They’re waiting. And you are allowed to go find them.
The art spell I created this week will help you do that. You’ll learn more about it further down.
ASTROLOGY HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 22-28, 2025
The week starts off with the Sun entering Libra on Monday, September 22, marking the autumn equinox. It’s a time of equal day and night so there’s a balance point between light and dark. For just a breath, the Earth holds still between two worlds. Spiritually, it marks the time of year where we start to turn inward, a call to descend.
We’re entering the seasons of soul journeys, of listening to the whispers of your ancestors, of remembering who you were before you learned to fragment and hide. As the light begins to fade, the invitation is not to resist the dark but to let it show you the parts of yourself that still want to be seen and welcomed back.
A Shift in Mood and Tone
Then, on Wednesday, September 24, Mars moves into Scorpio and this is a deeply meaningful shift. Mars has been in Libra, where it tends to be weaker, more concerned with people-pleasing or avoiding conflict. But in Scorpio, Mars comes home. It’s no longer trying to perform or placate. It becomes focused, emotionally intelligent, and powerfully precise. Mars in Scorpio doesn’t need to raise its voice—it cuts through illusion like a scalpel. This is warrior energy, but not the kind that fights outwardly. It’s the kind that does shadow work, that meets fear with truth, that walks into the dark with purpose. It’s the part of you that says, I am not afraid to face what hurt me, because I’m ready to take my energy back.
If you’re someone like me, who has Mars as a planet that symbolizes a lot of places in your life where you need healing, this is a moment you might feel deeply in your body, your business, and your emotional energy.
Mars is the part of us that cuts through what no longer serves. It’s decisive. It’s assertive. But in a day chart like mine, and maybe yours too, Mars has a more difficult job. It’s not quite in its natural element. It tends to show up as inflammation, inner heat, burnout, depletion, blocks or sudden energy crashes.
What is Your Relationship with Mars
For me, when Mars is struggling in the sky, I often feel it as a flare in my body with the accompanying pain, inflammation and sometimes even allergy-like responses. And in my business, I feel it as a block. It’s this inner wall I can’t seem to push through, where action feels heavy or overwhelming or like it always takes more energy than I have available.
But something is changing now. Mars hasn’t had a lot of strength or clarity. It’s been in places where it’s had to borrow power, operate in ways that aren’t quite natural to it, or even where it’s been debilitated and disconnected from its usual resources. But this week, Mars returns to one of its home signs which is Scorpio. And personally, I think this is a big deal for my body and I’m really looking forward to it.
Mars in Scorpio
Mars in Scorpio is focused, clear, and powerful. It’s strategic and deep. It knows what it wants, and it moves with surgical precision. Think of the healer who knows exactly where to place the needle. Think of the part of you that can move through shadows and not flinch. That’s Mars in Scorpio. It has stamina. It knows how to endure. And it can help you reconnect with your will or your capacity to act in alignment with your soul.
For those of us who’ve felt weighed down by fatigue or indecision, or who’ve struggled with knowing where to place our energy lately, this shift could feel like relief. Like finally picking up the thread again. And if your Mars usually brings up health flare-ups or nervous system stress, this new position might feel like Mars is finally working with you, not against you. It’s still intense obviously. Scorpio is a water sign, after all, so it brings depth but it’s focused intensity. It’s energy with a mission.
Motivation, Energy and Drive Increasing
You might also feel this as a moment where your drive to clear what’s been stuck becomes stronger. Or maybe you feel suddenly brave enough to face the blocks in your business that felt too murky to move through before. Maybe you are ready to untangle what’s been tangled for years. Because Mars in Scorpio wants to go there. There is a desire to dive into the messy, buried places and transform them. Mars in Scorpio doesn’t shy away from the underworld. It thrives there.
This is the kind of Mars that helps us take sacred action. It’s not impulsive or aggressive but deliberate and honest. This is Mars as the one who cuts the cords to what is no longer true. The one who digs deep to find the roots of what’s been holding you back, and lovingly but fiercely pulls them out.
So if you’ve been in a long season of depletion or resistance (or inflammation and overwhelm), and especially if you’ve been feeling like your fire has gone out, let yourself be open to what this new Mars might bring. Just notice where you’re ready to reclaim your will, your vitality, and your momentum.
Intense Emotions Rising to the Surface
On that same day, Wednesday, Mars forms a square with Pluto, amplifying the energy even further. This can bring intense emotions to the surface. You might feel activated, agitated, or overwhelmed. There could be moments of conflict or power struggles both with others and inside yourself. But the deeper gift of this alignment is about breaking free.
This is the kind of tension that creates transformation. The kind that helps you finally push through a dynamic that’s been holding you back, draining your energy, or keeping you in an outdated role. It’s the sacred effort required to reclaim power that’s been scattered or suppressed. You might feel your anger rise and that’s not actually a problem. It might be your soul saying, enough. Enough giving your power away. No more hiding your truth. I’m done waiting for permission.
You can make this week a holy one. Bring your presence and if it feels appropriate and in the right time, bring your lost parts home and feel what needs to be felt and take action from a place of deep truth.
HOW TO WORK WITH THIS WEEK’S ASTROLOGY IN YOUR BUSINESS
The Autumn Equinox can also feel like a spiritual reset.
When the Sun enters Libra, it initiates a new quarter of the year. It’s a shift in energy and a call to recalibrate.
The harvest is being enjoyed. The fruits of what you planted earlier in the year are now visible and it’s time to take stock. This is the perfect time in your business to think about the goals you set at the Spring Equinox or the Winter Solstice and review them.
What is still important to you?
Have things worked out as you thought they would or do you need to shift something?
What is thriving?
What is no longer aligned?
Is there something you are ready to release and what are you ready to recommit to?
Journal Prompts for the Equinox
The Autumn Equinox invites you to pause and reflect:
What am I walking away from?
What am I moving toward now?
Is there something I need to shift in my goals, my creative rhythm, or the way I show up in my business or life?
Are there patterns, projects, or parts of myself that are ready to be composted?
And what’s quietly waiting to be nourished?
I invite you to take a moment to mark this milestone. Think of it as an energetic crossroads.
When you consider the next three months, what do you want them to be about?
Are you exploring something in a deeper way in these next three months?
Is there something you want to change or reclaim before the Winter Solstice?
Where do you want your focus to go?
It’s time to choose what kind of growth you want to cultivate through the final quarter of the year. You get to adjust course now if you need to. You get to realign with what matters most and root our business in what feels truly meaningful to you now that you’ve done all this changing and growing and shifting since the spring equinox.
So let yourself arrive at the autumn threshold. Let yourself choose what you will carry forward… and what you’re ready to lay down.
HOW THIS WEEK’S ASTROLOGY MIGHT AFFECT YOUR HIGHLY SENSITIVE NATURE
If you’re highly sensitive like me, this week’s astrology might actually feel like a relief. After a spring and summer that asked so much of our energy like more movement, more light and more social expectations, this week finally starts to pivot toward the quieter half of the year. And honestly? That slower rhythm might be exactly what your system’s been craving.
The Sun entering Libra on the autumn equinox marks the beginning of the descent. The light starts to wane, the air changes, and something deep inside us exhales. There’s no longer this pressure to be “on” all the time. Maybe you’re in a season of not pushing to be visible, productive, active and blooming.
You’re allowed to soften. You’re allowed to turn inward. And your sensitive system might love that.
This isn’t about collapse or hiding. It’s about rebalancing. Recalibrating. Coming back to yourself after months of being pulled outward. Think of this week as the beginning of a descent into your inner world where you get to tend to the parts of yourself that got lost, overlooked, or overwhelmed in all the brightness of spring and summer.
Mars entering Scorpio midweek deepens that inward pull. It’s like the energy shifts from scatter to precision. From trying to do everything, to doing the one thing that actually matters. It’s quiet, but it’s not weak. It’s deep, intentional, focused. This could feel like someone finally dimmed the lights and gave you permission to just be with yourself again.
So if you find yourself wanting to retreat a little more this week, or needing more time alone, or feeling emotions rise up that you haven’t had space for, trust that. You’re not going backwards, It’s not you being “too sensitive.” It’s actually you aligning with nature. Your system might know something your mind hasn’t caught up with yet.
You’re not broken for needing stillness or a slower pace. You’re wise for craving it.
HOW THIS WEEK’S ENERGY MIGHT AFFECT YOUR CLIENTS OR CUSTOMERS
This week, you might notice your clients feeling a little more raw or tender than usual. Not necessarily in crisis, but definitely moving through something deep. There’s a lot happening under the surface with Mars and Pluto so old emotions surfacing, power dynamics shifting and truths they’ve been avoiding might now be quietly pressing in.
You may hear them talking about relationship tension not just with partners or friends, but with work, their business, their bodies or their boundaries. If control, power, or self-worth are themes, you’re not imagining it. Mars in Scorpio square Pluto doesn’t mess around. It digs into the root of the issue. It stirs the pot where things have been stuck, but it does it so transformation can happen.
Time to Take Action
They might also feel this big push to change something and finally act on the thing they’ve been thinking about for months. But they might doubt themselves or their timing. Questioning if they’re really ready. This is where your support really matters. They don’t need a solution. They need a steady mirror. Reflect back their growth. Remind them of how far they’ve already come.
This is also a week where the sensitive ones might just want to rest. To disappear a little. To be quiet. Normalize that. Not everyone is meant to charge ahead in a Mars moment. Some of us are meant to go deep, clear out, and come back stronger.
If you’re guiding people this week, gently name what you see. Not in a confronting way, but in that loving, intuitive, you-see-their-soul kind of way. Let them know it’s safe to slow down. Encourage grounding practices, especially art journaling, walking outside, spiritual rituals like lighting a candle or pulling a card. The autumn equinox is the perfect time to reconnect with the part of them that already knows what they need next.
HOW TO LEAD YOUR COMMUNITY IN THIS WEEK’S ASTROLOGY
This is one of those rare weeks where the sacred timing of the moon and stars is perfect for ritual. As a leader, guide, or creative space holder, this is your moment to lean into the deeper magic because your people are ready. They may not know it consciously, but their nervous systems and their spirits can feel the shift. The equinox is a portal, and Mars entering Scorpio square Pluto cracks something open. This is the week to call your community into something meaningful.
You don’t have to overdo it. You don’t need a fancy ritual or perfectly polished words. What matters is presence. What matters is showing up in your truth and creating space where your people can feel theirs.
This is a powerful week to guide your audience through themes of descent and return. Reflect: What parts of myself have been left behind in past seasons, maybe during childhood, maybe in my business journey, maybe just during a busy summer?
How can I welcome these parts back now?
Take It Nice and Slow
You can do this in simple, soulful ways. Light a candle and hold a live or virtual circle. Share your own story of power loss and reclamation. Post a journal prompt. Invite them to draw their own inner Persephone or their own sacred return.
Remind them that slowness is allowed. That power isn’t always loud. That rest, grief, silence, and reflection are not steps back. They’re sacred forward movement in disguise. Quiet soulful inner work is just as important as practical action.
If you’re holding space in your business this week, whether you’re teaching, writing, selling, or leading, weave in these reminders: You are allowed to change. You are allowed to come back to yourself. You are allowed to rest.
Your calm, grounded presence and your willingness to name what’s actually happening beneath the surface is the medicine this week. And trust that your leadership, even when it feels quiet or unseen, is rippling out in ways you may not yet understand.
