Preparing for the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse – Art Journal with the Moon for September 9-15, 2024

In this post, I share a summary of the moon for the week of September 9-15, 2024 as it moves through the zodiac and interacts with the planets. I also describe how to prepare for the upcoming full moon lunar eclipse in your art journal.

The Moon This Week

The growing moon is moving towards that full moon lunar eclipse in Pisces that is happening on September 17, 2024. It’s a highly emotional, intuitive, dreamy, spiritual full moon and one I think will be magical to work with in your art journal. In this post, I want to talk about how you can prepare for the eclipse.

I’m also going to share a summary of the moon’s energy this week, giving you an overview of what to expect as the moon moves through different signs and phases. However, if you’re looking for more specific ways to work with the moon’s energy each day, be sure to follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. There, in my videos and reels, I share daily art journal with the moon prompts that guide you in doing deep inner work or practicing manifestation magic in a creative way with the moon. You can also sign up here, to get reminders in your inbox of the moon’s energy for the upcoming week and how you can work with it in your art journal to practice folk magictend to your soul or do your deep inner work

The week kicks off with the waxing crescent moon moving into the sign of Sagittarius on Monday which is the perfect energy to imagine all the paths of possibility that exist for you. This is especially helpful to consider since we’re moving towards such a dreamy, imaginative full moon lunar eclipse in Pisces which wants to help you make sure you are walking your soul’s path to your dreams.

On Tuesday, the waxing crescent moon is still in the sign of Sagittarius but it’s also having a happy relationship with Venus and a tense relationship with Saturn. This conflicting energy can mirror inner conflicts that have to do with responsibility versus pleasure. Where in your life do you want to feel expansive or playful but you feel tied down by responsibilities?

The moon moves into the sign of Capricorn on Wednesday and is now in the first quarter phase. The energy of the first quarter moon encourages you to break through barriers, whether they’re external obstacles or internal doubts, pushing you to heal what you need to heal to move forward and take concrete steps forward toward your dreams.

With a Capricorn moon having a happy relationship with Saturn, Thursday brings a mature, wise, stable energy to you. Use this energy to focus on themes of structure, stability, and long-term goals in your art journal. Start by creating a page that reflects what you want to build in your life—whether that’s a personal goal, a creative project, or a new habit you want to establish. Use symbols of strength and endurance, like mountains, trees, or steps, to represent the steady progress you’re making.

On Friday, the first quarter moon is still in the sign of Capricorn. . Capricorn is a sign that values hard work, discipline, and creating a solid foundation for the future. Emotionally, this moon encourages us to be practical and grounded, focusing on what really matters and what will last.

Saturday’s lunar energy supports you in breaking free from old patterns or limitations and embrace new, unique ways of being. Spiritually, it’s a time to explore your deeper truths and face any shadows or fears that might be holding you back from expressing your true self. This is perfect energy to prepare for my FREE 3-Day Wild Witch Activation that starts on Sunday so definitely think about registering to join us.

The week wraps up on Sunday with the gibbous moon in Aquarius having a happy relationship with Jupiter AND Venus. This brings a wave of positive, uplifting energy. Use this time in your journal to celebrate what you love about yourself and your life.

Remember, the moon’s energy is here to support you in embracing who you truly are. By art journaling with the lunar energy this week, you’re not only connecting with the rhythms of nature but also nurturing your soul and manifesting the changes you really want to see in your life so you can more fully align with your true self.

Now let’s talk more about how to prepare for the upcoming full moon lunar eclipse in Pisces.

The General Properties of This Eclipse

The upcoming full moon lunar eclipse in Pisces is a powerful moment of transformation. A lunar eclipse has intense energy for change and release. The earth comes between the sun and the moon, causing the moon’s light to be obscured, creating an opportunity for deep inner work and reflection. This North Node eclipse is all about looking toward the future and consciously integrating what you need for greater fulfillment.

How can you better align with who you really are?

This eclipse is a chance to realign with your soul and get clear about your soul’s path. It’s like hitting the “reset” button on old patterns, helping to delete what no longer serves you and download new ways of being that are essential for your soul’s growth. It invites you to let go of anything that isn’t useful anymore or to redefine how you view your past conditioning. It might feel like everything is in flux right now, so you might feel some stress or tension, but this is all part of a shift that’s happening—a “consciousness upgrade” that allows you to release what holds you back and redefine yourself.

How do you want to redefine yourself?

The Emotional Qualities of This Eclipse

During the upcoming full moon lunar eclipse in Pisces, you may notice a huge swelling of emotions and a heightened sense of energetic awareness. This eclipse is in a water sign which can bring up a lot of feelings and which can sometimes feel overwhelming—like an overflow of emotion, sensation, and energy all at once.

Make sure you have a box of tissues beside you as art journal with the moon.

You might also find yourself longing for deeper meaning and some really yummy soul food. As my mentor Kelly Surtees reminded me, this Pisces energy and the fact the moon is also having a relationship with Neptune also sparks your imagination, dreams, and intuition, which can be inspiring but may also make you feel a bit disconnected from reality. While you’re in this energy, it can be challenging to tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined or what is yours and what is not yours. To me, this means make sure you are protecting yourself energetically and since your emotions and dreams may feel especially intense, let things settle down before you respond. Try not to react while your emotions are heightened and if you are feeling emotional, take a moment to get curious and ask yourself if what you are feeling or carrying in your body is yours or if it’s someone else.

It may be that what you’re carrying isn’t even yours to carry.

This is also a good time to explore the dreams and goals that truly fulfill you and gently let go of those that have disappointed you or haven’t come to be as you imagined they would. It’s kind of like a closet cleaning, but in your heart and soul.

All eclipses emphasize the need for extra care, soothing, comfort and grounding, both emotionally and spiritually. Be kind to yourself. Be gentle. Take care of that precious nervous system and your highly sensitive nature.

How To Take Care of Yourself as We Lead Up to the Eclipse

As we approach the full moon lunar eclipse in Pisces, try to plan extra healing experiences for yourself. This is a powerful time for deep emotional and spiritual work, so make sure to take time for mystical practices and soulful activities that nourish your spirit.  My FREE 3-Day Wild Witch Activation is actually perfect for this and it’s happening right on the eclipse so you may want to sign up for that.

Staying grounded is key—soothe your nervous system and take care of yourself emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

I like how my mentor Kelly Surtees reminded me that water is especially important during this time (because we’re deep in Pisces energy); use it for balance and calming, whether through drinking plenty of water, taking a soothing bath, or spending time near a body of water. Rest is crucial, too—this eclipse can bring a lot of change or stress, so make sure you’re giving yourself plenty of time to relax and recharge. Look at your calendar, are there commitments you can let go? Depending on whether or not they nourish your soul, you might want to reschedule or let them go altogether.

Be gentle with yourself and others and remember that everything might be up in the air right now. The energy of this eclipse can be intense and confusing, so know that things may not be as they seem. And something I’ve heard over and over again about eclipses is it’s wise to wait until the eclipse energy settles before making any final decisions. Give yourself the space and time to process everything that comes up during these next couple weeks.

Let yourself digest all the new energy, revelations, change and consciousness upgrades before you make decisions.

Working with the Energy of the Eclipse in Your Art Journal:

You might enjoy working with this eclipse energy in your art journal in these ways:

  • Divination
  • Connecting with your spirit allies
  • Aligning with your soul
  • Revisiting your dreams and goals and checking in to see if they still feel in alignment with what you really want
  • Once you figured out what dreams and goals will stay, it’s great energy to dream and vision in
  • Make a vision board
  • Visualize the future you want to create
  • Write a letter from your higher self to your present self. What advice, encouragement, or wisdom does your soul have to share with you under this eclipse?
  • Pull a card and use your journal to create a page inspired by its imagery and message. Let the card guide your thoughts on what this eclipse is inviting you to release or embrace.
  • Pisces is a water sign, so play with watercolor paints, ink, or even water-based markers to create fluid, flowing art that reflects your emotions or intuitive insights.

This is a powerful time for reflection and self-discovery, and your art journal can be a perfect tool to help you navigate this energy. Start by reflecting on the question, “What am I letting go of so I can move in the direction my soul wants me to go?” Think about what no longer serves you and explore whether you are collaborating with your soul’s true desires or resisting them.

You may realize that some of your dreams need to change to better align with your soul’s true path. Ask yourself, “Is this dream worth the price I will have to pay to make it a reality?” It’s important to seek clarity on what is truly meaningful and to be aware of the consequences and reality of the dreams you’re holding onto. Use this eclipse energy to redefine or reshape your path, allowing it to align more closely with your soul’s evolution and purpose.

Let your art journal be a space where you express these thoughts and questions. Use colors, images, and words that resonate with your reflections, and allow yourself to freely explore what comes up.

This moon can help you gain insight and guide you toward a path that feels truer and more aligned with who you are at a deep, soulful level.

Two Powerful Ways To Work with This Eclipse Energy Together

I have two fantastic ways for us to work with this powerful Pisces lunar eclipse energy in our art journals together! You can either join me for the next Witchy Wednesday Art Circle or sign up for my free 3-Day Wild Witch Activation happening right on the eclipse—or even better, join me for both!

Witchy Wednesday Art Circle is a weekly online gathering where we align with the moon and nature’s cycles, practice folk magic in our art journals, and use the MAP Method to clear subconscious blocks that stand between you and your dreams. These gatherings are designed to help you tend to your soul, practice magic, or process any emotions you haven’t had time for earlier in the week.

We finish with a Moon Mapping session, where we use the MAP Method (Make Anything Possible) to release old memories and overcome limiting beliefs that hold you back.

Don’t worry if you don’t have an art journal or art experience—this is all about the process, not the final result. You can use pencil crayons or markers on any paper you have! You’ll leave feeling lighter, clearer, and ready to take confident steps forward, with a deeper understanding of your own unique magic.
