This is a summary of the moon’s energy for the upcoming week and the inner work and magic you can do in your art journal to make the most of the opportunities the cosmos is gifting us with.
Every week the emotional and magical opportunities the moon is sending you are different because the energy she is drawing down from the planets and stars changes moment to moment. Planets and stars and moon phases and moon signs each carry their own unique energy .This is my weekly update (Mon-Fri) of the moon’s comings and goings to support you in aligning with her energy.
Get your art journal or a scrap of paper you see lying around, your art supplies or those pencil crayons you have hidden away somewhere and have fun. Spend 10 – 20 minutes focusing on the themes the moon is supporting you to explore that day while you play with colors and shapes and watch what happens over time.
It’s amazing what a little consistent creative time can do.
A Few Thoughts Before We Get Started
This week I’m preparing for my new course which is somewhat of a dream come true for me. I’ve given versions of this course for many years but not in the exact way I wanted to. I like self-paced online courses as much as I like books. This year I’m finally trusting this about myself and following my dreams to create both. If you like self-paced online courses like I do, you might enjoy this one I’m working on.
My word for 2023 is magic and part of the meaning of that word for me is trusting my soul or, in Internal Family Systems speak, my core self to lead the way. I’ve done a lot of inner work and I continue to show up and do the inner work I need to do in order to make my dreams a reality.
Sometimes, moving towards my dreams has been a long hike up a rocky mountain. I watch other people achieve what I want to achieve in a shorter amount of time than I ever could and still I do the work. Who am I to say when or how my magic will manifest in my life? It’s not my job to control everything. My job is to heal what shows up, work my magic and trust.
Trust MY process!
Trust MY path!
It’s not going to look like anyone else’s. It’s not supposed to.
It’s hard sometimes to trust my path. Especially when I’m not in the results part of the journey. I can look at other people and compare myself but what a terribly arrogant thing to do. Who am I to see the complete picture? Who am I to say where I actually am in the big picture of things? Who am I to know the grand purpose and design of it all?
What I can do that feels kind and helpful is love myself without conditions. When I continue to dream but release the pressure of success, results and achievement, I fall into flow with something bigger and grander than myself. I focus on listening instead; listening to my heart, my soul and the divine.
My new course is more focused on listening to your soul in the coming year than it is on setting the kind of goals that society, your family or your less wise inner parts would choose to set for you. It’s also focused on listening to the moon and trusting the energy its drawing down for us in 2023.

Today the moon is in the waxing crescent phase.
This moon phase is when a silver sliver of the moon begins to appear in the night sky. The moon is moving from being dark, still and invisible to growing and coming into full power.
I like to think of this phase as the time when the dream seeds I planted during the New Moon are just starting to form shoots or tiny roots. I might not be able to see my prayers being answered or my dreams manifesting but I can have faith that despite the limited capabilities of what my physical senses can pick up, Spirit is conspiring in my favor and there are invisible forces at work in my life helping me to grow, heal, evolve and create.
In my art rituals, this is the time when I’m meditating on the intentions I set during the New Moon. I’m revisiting my intentions and trying to call them up in my imagination again and trying to tap into the emotions those intentions evoke within me. I’m feeding my dreams with the power of my imagination and my emotions.
How far can you stretch your imagination today?
How much goodness can you imagine growing in your life today?
How many invisible forces can you imagine are helping you today?
How many invisible actions can you imagine your angels and spirit guides are taking to help you reach your goals and manifest your new moon intentions?
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents your new moon intentions growing in the invisible realm.
Later in the day the moon moves into the sign of Pisces.
Pisces is a mutable water sign. Pisces energy is calm and highly receptive. It can help you absorb more information from the environment and from other people. This is great when the energy you are absorbing is helpful, nurturing and positive but its not so great when the energy that surrounds you is heavy, intense, negative or unhealthy.
When the moon is in Pisces it can highlight our highly sensitive natures, our compassion and our ability to care for others. It can also help us tune into and honor our creativity but it can also bring flightiness, fickleness and indecision. Pisces energy changes is sentimental but can also change according to whatever mood or emotion it is feeling.
Let’s magnetize the helpful qualities of Pisces.
Think about your intuitive nature. What are you grateful to your intuition about?
In your art journal, create a page that represents what you are grateful to your intuition for.
The moon is in the same zodiac sign as Neptune which amplifies their energy.
The moon and Neptune both carry spiritual, dreamy and intuitive energy so it’s a good day to slip into liminal space, connect with your spirit guides and angels or focus on your creativity and divination rather than productivity and being rational or practical.
It’s great energy to do inner work, connect with your inner parts, work with the MAP Method like we do here, meditate, rest, daydream, recommit to your spiritual practice, vision your future, dive into some emotional healing work and get curious about and try to meet your emotional needs or focus on your therapeutic practices.
Let’s use this energy to peer into 2023. Ask the divine to give you a message about the general feel of the coming year then pull a tarot or oracle card.
In your art journal, create an image that represents the message you received from your tarot or oracle card about 2023.
The moon is in the fire sign of Aries. Aries is ruled by the fiery planet Mars so the moon is carrying a little bit if that planet’s energy today as well.
Aries is action, quick responses and impulses. It values action. When the moon is in the sign of Aries as it is today, it can bring abrupt energy that is blunt and harsh – maybe even sometimes aggressive but it also helps to light a spark in your spirit and connect you to your passion and enthusiasm.
Think about what makes you light up.
What makes you feel alive?
Have you been doing what makes you feel alive lately?
In your art journal, create an image that represents something what lights your soul up.
Today the moon is in the first quarter phase. Only half the moon seems to be lit up in the night sky during this phase. This is the phase in the creation cycle where there is a tendency to give up or doubt the process. Challenges or obstacles may come between you and your goals and your job is to remain committed despite whatever gets in the way. This is the time to observe your self-talk and heal whatever shadows surface. Make sure you are taking actions and making decisions from your Spirit and your inner wisdom rather than listening to your insecurities and doubt.
Emotional and spiritual themes you can explore in your art journal for the first quarter moon include themes around commitment, doubt, insecurities, body image, self-esteem, your inner critic, your passion, purpose and bigger reasons for being.
Take a moment to think about your new moon intentions again. Imagine what it will be like if your new moon intentions became a reality in your life?
What changes, big or small, will happen in your life when your new moon intentions become real?
What will it feel like to experience those changes?
What choices can you make this week to help your new moon intentions become a reality in your life?
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that captures a new choice you’re ready to make.
