Releasing Emotional Baggage from Your Digestive System During Virgo Season – Art Journal with the Moon for August 26-September 1, 2024
In this post, I share a summary of the moon for the week of August 26-September 1, 2024 as it moves through the zodiac and interacts with the planets. I also describe why neutralizing memories around food and eating and releasing emotions you carry that affect your digestive system is so effective as we approach the new moon in Virgo.
The Moon This Week
Every week, I share a summary of the moon’s energy, giving you an overview of what to expect as the moon moves through different signs and phases. However, if you’re looking for more specific ways to work with the moon’s energy each day, be sure to follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. There, in my videos and reels, I share daily art journal with the moon prompts that guide you in doing deep inner work or practicing manifestation magic in a creative way with the moon. This week, the moon is waning as we move towards a new moon in Virgo. We’re also at a time when Mercury will be reaching the end of it’s retrograde. As it does, it slows down so the collective energy is slowing down. It’s a good week for catching up and dealing with loose ends from the past.
The week kicks off with the last quarter moon in Gemini on Monday which is the perfect energy to make peace with our past, cultivate forgiveness towards ourselves and others, and create space for new possibilities and growth. The last quarter moon invites you to pause, look inward, and clear away what no longer serves you.
On Tuesday, the last quarter moon is still in the sign of Gemini but it’s also having a happy relationship with the planet Mercury. In this phase of release and letting go, it is a great time to think about what mental or emotional clutter you need to clear out to move forward. It’s an opportunity to have important conversations, journal about your thoughts, or get creative in ways that help you process and release what’s no longer serving you.
As the moon enters Cancer and has a tense relationship with Neptune on Wednesday, you might find it difficult to separate your own feelings from those of others, or you may feel like your dreams or the changes you want to manifest in your life are conflicting with your current reality. We’ll work with this energy in your art journal to remember it’s okay to feel lost sometimes and that’s when it’s helpful to center yourself back on what’s important to you.
With the moon moving into the balsamic phase and having a happy relationship with Saturn, Thursday brings a wise energy to support you. You might feel a strong sense of emotional stability and maturity. This is a time when you can reflect on your past experiences and see how they have shaped you, especially in terms of your emotional growth and the boundaries you’ve created to protect yourself or the boundaries you want to create in the future to protect your highly sensitive nature.
On Friday, the moon enters Leo. When the balsamic moon is in Leo, you might feel a pull to reflect on how you’ve been expressing yourself lately—whether you’ve been truly showing up as your authentic self or if there’s something holding you back.
Saturday’s lunar energy is similar to Friday’s so we’re going to use this day in your art journal to further explore how you’ve been showing up in your life and which thoughts, beliefs or memories you can release or transform to feel free to be yourself and let your spirit shine.
The week wraps up on Sunday with the moon moving into the sign of Virgo where it will be when it moves into the new moon phase on Monday. Virgo, in ancient astrology, is connected to the stomach and digestive system, making this an ideal time to work on releasing any emotional baggage you may be carrying in your digestive system or healing your relationship with food and eating.
Remember, the moon’s energy is here to support you in embracing who you truly are. By art journaling with the lunar energy this week, you’re not only connecting with the rhythms of nature but also nurturing your soul and manifesting the changes you really want to see in your life so you can more fully align with your true self.
Now let’s talk more about how to work with the energy this week to neutralize memories around food and eating and to release heavy emotions that affect your digestive system.
A Season for Healing
I carry A LOT of memories around food and eating. As a child, I ate carbs to comfort myself and deal with my trauma response and the emotional neglect I experienced. In my late twenties and thirties, I was an emotional eater plus I struggled with the self-hate, guilt and shame that naturally tags alongside addiction. I also hated my body and felt fat all the time – which is ironic in a way because by the time I was forty I was no longer an emotional eater and I healed my body image issues so I loved myself and the skin I live in but I was heavier than I have ever been.
Just as I thought I had found peace with food and my body, my Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) kicked into high gear. I’ve always had overreactive mast cells, but in my forties, they started to affect my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Suddenly, food wasn’t just about nourishment or even comfort—it became a source of fear and trauma.
With MCAS, there’s this unpredictable element that makes eating an anxious, sometimes terrifying experience. One day, I can eat something and be completely fine, and then the next day, that same food sends my body into anaphylaxis. It’s not like I have a typical food allergy where I know what to avoid—my reactions are unpredictable. I never know when my mast cells will decide to overreact, releasing a flood of histamines and other chemicals that send my body spiraling into a life-threatening reaction.
Imagine sitting down to eat, a simple act most people take for granted, and feeling a wave of fear wash over you. Will this meal be safe? Or will it trigger another reaction?
And while there are many other things that set off my mast cells—intense emotions, temperature changes, chemical odors, exercise, sunlight—food is the most noticeable. I can’t avoid it. I have to eat.
Living with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) has really made me understand just how delicate and crucial our digestive system is. For me, digestion isn’t just about breaking down food—it’s a complex process that can be easily thrown off balance by so many different factors. My mast cells, which are overactive, not only cause anaphylaxis. They can also cause all kinds of issues with digestion. They release chemicals that can lead to inflammation in the gut, which makes it harder for my body to process food properly. This can result in symptoms like bloating, pain, nausea, and even malabsorption, where my body isn’t getting the nutrients it needs from the food I eat.
Stress and intense emotions are another huge factor. When you’re stressed or going through something emotionally intense, your body’s fight-or-flight response kicks in. For me, this can trigger my mast cells and throw my digestion completely off. It’s like my body is on high alert, and everything gets out of whack. My stomach might feel like it’s in knots, or I might struggle with indigestion or even more severe symptoms. Although my reactions are possibly more intense or disruptive than the average bear, stress and intense emotions affect all our digestive systems.
Digestion is Important But Also Delicate
Digestion is so important for the proper functioning of the body. It’s how we get the nutrients we need to survive and thrive. But it’s also incredibly delicate and can be easily disrupted.
When your digestive system isn’t working well, it affects everything else—your energy levels, your mood, your ability to think clearly, and even your immune system.
It’s a reminder of just how interconnected everything in our body is and how much we rely on our digestive health to feel good and function properly.
There was a time when I was pretty oblivious to what my body was feeling or what it needed. I’d just push through, not really paying attention. But now, I can sense the tiniest shifts and changes. I know what my body needs and when it needs it (most of the time. I’m only human after all). It’s like I’ve developed this internal radar that picks up on everything, which has become essential for managing my health.
One thing I’ve learned is just how intricately connected the digestive system and the nervous system are. They’re in constant communication with each other, and both play a huge role in how my mast cells behave. If my nervous system is out of balance—if I’m stressed, anxious, or emotionally triggered—it directly impacts my digestion. My stomach might get upset, or my body might struggle to process food. And when my digestive system isn’t working well, my mast cells start to overreact. This can lead to an inflammation response where my body releases all these chemicals that make me feel sick and inflamed.
When this happens, it’s not just about feeling unwell in the moment. My organs—like my kidneys, gallbladder, liver, and pancreas—have to work overtime to clear these chemicals out of my body. It puts a lot of stress on them. So, I’ve had no choice but to become somewhat of a master at regulating my nervous system and helping my digestive system when it’s having a hard time.
Because of how my body reacts, I’ve also come to realize just how important it is to neutralize emotional triggers and memories. When I don’t address these, the consequences are loud and intense, completely disrupting my life. That’s why I work with the MAP Method every day now and why I regularly use the recordings I created for my digestive system. I can’t take traditional drugs or use conventional methods to help my digestion because I’m too sensitive to them. I had to find alternative ways to support myself—methods that are gentle and won’t trigger my body. The MAP Method has been that solution for me. It’s helped me find balance, and it’s become an essential part of how I take care of my health.
Neutralizing emotional triggers and memories has become absolutely essential for me. When we go through something emotionally intense or traumatic, those memories don’t just sit in our minds—they get stored in our bodies too. These stored emotions can create triggers that cause our bodies to react, sometimes in ways we don’t even realize. For someone like me, those reactions can be especially intense. If I don’t address these triggers, my body might overreact, leading to inflammation, discomfort, or even more serious symptoms.
So, what does it mean to neutralize an emotional trigger or memory? It’s about taking the emotional charge out of that memory so it no longer causes a strong reaction in the present. The memory doesn’t go away, but the intense feelings connected to it—like fear, anger, or sadness—get dialed down. This makes it easier for my body to stay calm and not spiral into a stress response.
As I mentioned, the MAP Method is the tool I use to do this. It works by communicating directly with the subconscious mind, where these memories and emotional triggers are stored. Through specific commands and prompts, the MAP Method helps my subconscious mind reprocess these memories, essentially telling my body and mind, “It’s safe now. You don’t need to react like this anymore.” It’s a gentle, non-invasive way to reduce the emotional intensity tied to past experiences, which in turn helps my body stay balanced and healthy. For me, it’s been a game-changer in managing my health and overall well-being.
Virgo Season and Your Digestive System
This week, the moon is waning as we move towards a new moon in Virgo. We’re also at a time when Mercury will be reaching the end of it’s retrograde. As it does, it slows down so the collective energy is slowing down. It’s a good week for catching up and dealing with loose ends from the past.
According to ancient astrology, the zodiac sign of Virgo is closely connected to the stomach and digestive system. Virgo is known as the sign of health and service, and it’s believed to rule over the parts of the body that deal with digestion. This includes the stomach, intestines, and the entire process of breaking down food and absorbing nutrients. Just like Virgo is detail-oriented and focused on getting things right, your digestive system carefully processes everything you eat, making sure your body gets the nourishment it needs. Because of this connection, Virgo energy is often associated with paying attention to what you eat and how your body handles food, making it an ideal time to focus on improving your digestive health.
During this time, the energy is perfect for reflecting on your eating habits and understanding how they impact your overall well-being. It’s also a great moment to address any emotional memories that might be affecting your digestion.
By neutralizing these memories, you can help your body process food more easily and reduce any stress or discomfort related to eating.
