The Power of Being Yourself – Art Journal with the Full Moon in Aquarius

In this post, I share a summary of the moon for the week of August 19-25, 2024 as it moves through the zodiac and interacts with the planets. I also describe how to work with the full moon in Aquarius in your art journal to release old identities that no longer serve you and embrace the power of being yourself.

The Moon This Week

Every week, I share a summary of the moon’s energy, giving you an overview of what to expect as the moon moves through different signs and phases. However, if you’re looking for more specific ways to work with the moon’s energy each day, be sure to follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. There, in my videos and reels, I share daily art journal with the moon prompts that guide you in doing deep inner work or practicing manifestation magic in a creative way with the moon.

This week, I’m working with the moon’s energy in my art journal to embrace my authentic self. I’m on a mission to change how I see myself so I can release my magic and create the changes I want to see in my life. The week kicks off with the full moon in Aquarius on Monday which is the perfect energy to start exploring which identities you no longer need and which ones it’s time to embrace in order to free your wild spirit and become who you’ve always wanted to be. That’s why further down in this post, I’ll show you how to work with the full moon in Aquarius to embrace who you really are and shed old versions of yourself that no longer fit.

On Tuesday, the moon moves into Pisces, a deeply intuitive and compassionate sign. Pisces energy helps you connect with your inner world and understand the subtler aspects of your identity. We’re going to use this time to explore how your emotions and spiritual insights guide you in being yourself.

As the moon enters Aries and has a tense relationship with Mars on Wednesday, you may feel a surge of assertive energy. This kind of tense relationship the moon is having with Mars highlights the importance of setting boundaries in your relationships to protect your authentic self. We’ll work with this energy in your art journal to consider where you need to assert yourself more clearly to stay true to who you are.

With the moon in a sextile with Jupiter, Thursday brings a supportive, expansive energy. The disseminating moon phase encourages you to share your insights and experiences with others. Jupiter’s benevolent influence makes this a great day to spread positivity and be generous with your authentic self.

On Friday, the moon enters Taurus, grounding the week’s energies in the physical, material world. Taurus lunar energy invites you to embody your true self in tangible ways and we’re going to tap into that energy to explore accepting your body exactly as it is right now.

Saturday’s sextile between the moon and Saturn brings a grounding influence, connected to the Crone archetype. The Crone teaches us the wisdom of age and experience, reminding you that being yourself is a lifelong journey. We’re going to use this day to honor your inner wisdom and resist the pressures to conform to other people’s expectations of who you should be or how you should spend your time.

The week wraps up on Sunday with the moon in Gemini, forming several aspects with other planets. This busy, airy energy might make you feel scattered or uncentered. It’s a reminder to stay rooted in who you are, even when external energies are pulling you in different directions. We’re going to use your art journal with the moon practice to focus on grounding exercises and inner work to maintain your sense of self amidst the busyness.

Remember, the moon’s energy is here to support you in embracing who you truly are. By art journaling with the lunar energy this week, you’re not only connecting with the rhythms of nature but also nurturing your soul and manifesting the changes you really want to see in your life so you can more fully align with your true self.

Now let’s talk more about how to work with the full moon in Aquarius in your art journal so you can step into the power of being yourself.

A Wild and Wacky Moon

There are a few interesting things to note about this week’s full moon in Aquarius. It is a super moon, meaning this moon can appear larger and brighter than usual. Don’t forget to actually go be with the moon and bask in it’s bright rays outside if you can. I also read in a Time’s article that it is considered a blue moon. There are two definitions of blue moons – the first is when we see two full moons in a month and the second is when we have a seasonal blue moon, which is when a season has four full moons instead of the usual three and the third of the four moons is supposedly called a blue moon. Is this really a thing? I’m not sure because I didn’t hear the astrologers I follow talk about it but I like the sound of it so I’m going with it for now because this moon does feel a little wild and unpredictable to me.

This full moon in Aquarius, with its square to Uranus, is a powerful time to explore the importance of being yourself because both Aquarius and Uranus are all about individuality, freedom, and breaking away from the norm. Aquarius energy encourages you to embrace your uniqueness and think outside the box. It’s a sign that values innovation, originality, and being true to who you are, even if it means standing apart from the crowd. Uranus, the planet that rules Aquarius, amplifies this energy by pushing for sudden changes, breakthroughs, and the breaking of old patterns that no longer serve you. Together, they create a powerful force for helping you step into your true self.

The energy of this full moon brings clarity about what isn’t working in your life and highlights where things aren’t going according to plan. It’s a time when unexpected changes and unpredictability might shake things up, but this is exactly what you need to break free from the restrictions that have been holding you back. The power of being yourself means embracing who you truly are, without trying to fit into someone else’s expectations or societal norms. It’s about tuning into your own unique gifts, values, and desires, and letting them guide your decisions and actions.

This full moon helps you see where you’ve been holding back or where there’s unfinished business that’s preventing you from fully stepping into your true self.

When you are truly yourself, you’re able to create a life that’s aligned with your purpose, leading to greater success and fulfillment. By embracing the energy of this full moon, you can make peace with imperfections, let go of what no longer serves you, and choose a path that truly reflects who you are. This clarity and self-acceptance are key to moving forward with confidence and creating the life you desire.

The moon represents your emotional and subconscious realm. It’s connected to your deepest feelings, instincts, and the parts of yourself that you may not always show to the world. During a full moon, these emotions and subconscious patterns are illuminated, bringing to light what you might have been avoiding or not fully aware of. This is the time to look inward and ask yourself what needs to change in your emotional and subconscious landscape in order to fully embrace and embody who you really are. It’s about recognizing where you’ve been holding back, where you might be conforming to others’ expectations, and what fears or insecurities are keeping you from being your true self. By addressing these areas during this full moon, you can release what’s holding you back and step more fully into your unique power and individuality.

Why Being Yourself is Sometimes Hard To Do

The more you live from your truth, the more aligned you are with your spirit but sometimes that’s not easy to do. Sometimes being yourself is hard.

Sometimes it’s hard to be yourself because you worry about what others will think or fear that you won’t be accepted. You might have grown up with expectations from family, friends, or society that made you feel like you needed to be a certain way to fit in or be loved. Over time, you can start to lose touch with who you really are as you try to meet these expectations. There can also be times when past experiences, like rejection or criticism, make you doubt yourself and hide your true self to avoid getting hurt. It can feel safer to blend in or follow what others do, even if it doesn’t feel right to you. But while it might seem easier in the moment, not being yourself can lead to feeling disconnected, unfulfilled, and like something is missing.

Sometimes it’s hard to listen to your inner voice and follow your truth because it forces you to confront things that other parts of you might not feel ready to face.

Your inner voice might guide you to make changes in your life that feel scary or uncomfortable, like leaving a job, ending a relationship, or stepping out of your comfort zone.

It can also bring up feelings or memories that you’ve been trying to avoid, making it challenging to face the truth.

Following your spirit and fully being yourself might mean going against what others expect of you or what society considers “normal,” which can be intimidating and make you worry about judgment or rejection. It can also be difficult because your inner voice might tell you to take a path that feels uncertain or unfamiliar, and the fear of the unknown can make it tempting to ignore or silence that voice. All these factors can make it challenging to truly listen to yourself and follow your truth, even when you know deep down that it’s the right thing to do.

But…

When you stop trying to fit into someone else’s mold or live up to others’ expectations or face your fears and finally trust yourself, you free yourself to express your true potential. Being yourself allows you to tap into your authentic energy, which is where your real power lies. It’s in this authenticity that you find the confidence, clarity, and motivation to pursue what you truly want in life. When you are true to yourself, you attract opportunities and people that resonate with who you really are, making it easier to create a life that feels fulfilling and meaningful.

Your power is in your uniqueness, and the more you embrace it, the more you can achieve and experience the life you desire.

I didn’t realize this in the past. I had a lot of emotional baggage preventing me from knowing myself let alone being myself. I was a chronic people-pleaser and over-giver who was attuned to the energy and emotions of everyone around me but I was not attuned to my own experience. I didn’t know who I was nor did I even realize how much I didn’t know who I was. I thought I was being myself but I had no clue. It wasn’t my fault and I don’t judge myself for it because I understand deeply how I became so lost. A lifetime of unhealed trauma and emotional neglect can take your power away without you even realizing it but my body knew and eventually it forced me to find and listen to myself.

How to Art Journal with the Energy of This Full Moon

In your art journal this week, I’d love you to create a page that represents what being yourself fully and completely means to you. Here are some questions that will help you explore this more deeply.

What does fully being yourself in your relationships look like at this time in your life?

What negative patterns are you holding onto that are preventing you from being yourself?

What is your spirit calling you to do?

What old identities do you need to let go of in order to more fully embrace and embody who you really are?

Do you see yourself as the kind of person who can achieve the things you want to achieve?

You might even want to create a page where you draw a line down the middle of the page and on the left side you depict who you used to be and on the right side you depict who you are now becoming.

Diving Deeper

I’m actually travelling deep into mindset work around my identity over the next while. I’m starting with a 30-Day art challenge where I create daily handprint art to explore and transform how I see myself. I’m calling it the 30-Day Release Your Magic Art Challenge and it starts on Thursday, August 22, 2024 and ends on September 20th. I’m doing this to release old beliefs that no longer serve me and to connect more deeply with my true, wild spirit. You can join me or see where I’ll be sharing my creations here.

Have fun with your art journal and the moon this week.

with love,
