Art Journal with the Moon: Themes and Prompts for March 17-23, 2025
In this post, I share a summary of the moon for the week of March 17-23, 2025 as it moves through the zodiac and interacts with the planets. I also talk about making an altar to the sun in your art journal for the spring equinox.
Who Are You Now?
This week, we step into the bold, bright energy of the spring equinox and the Sun in Aries – and it really does feel like crossing into something new, doesn’t it?
We have been deep in release, letting go, sorting, sifting, discerning and having things, relationships, situations, thoughts and beliefs drop away in our lives in a way that brought deep transformation and now we step into the season of rebirth and renewal.
After all the emotional clearing you’ve been doing, especially with the powerful full moon total eclipse that asked you to release what’s no longer aligned, it’s like you’ve walked through fire and now stand cleansed, lighter, and more rooted in the truth of who you really are and what you truly want.
The last few weeks may have felt like your soul relentlessly sorting through something in your life – sifting through old stories, beliefs, and emotional weight you were never meant to carry forward. That deep release has cleared the way for something new to rise.
Now, with the Sun freshly in Aries, we’re in the season of renewal, rebirth, and motivation.
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and when the Sun is here it is exalted and energized and we all get a boost of vitality, clarity, and momentum. This is the energy of “I can,” not “Can I?” It’s less about hesitation and more about action, confidence, and taking charge of your path. After so much emotional and spiritual detoxing, this fiery Aries season is calling you back to your personal power, your independence, your motivation, and your desires.
It’s Time to Say Yes
This is the time to say YES – to that idea, that dream, that change you’ve been quietly longing for. It’s time to start fresh, lead yourself, and move forward. And I know there’s still a lot of retrograde energy and the moon is still in eclipse season but you don’t have to wait for perfect conditions or anyone else’s permission.
I think the energy now is still constructive, motivating, and full of potential. Whether it’s a new project, a business move, a healing journey, or simply claiming more of who you really are, the moon and stars are handing you the torch and saying: Light the fire. Go. You’ve done the work of release – now use the clarity that’s left to take the first step. Trust in your power, trust in your momentum, and let yourself move forward with purpose and enthusiasm.
This is your time to begin again – stronger, clearer, and more yourself than ever.
Emerging From the Cave
Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’ve just emerged from a deep hermit cave. I’ve spent a long time turned inward, shut out from the noise of the world so I could truly listen to myself. And honestly, it’s been one of the most transformative chapters of my life. I’ve never related more to the caterpillar-goes-to-goo metaphor. You know the one where it turns to mush inside the cocoon before it grows wings and becomes a butterfly? That’s exactly what it’s felt like.
Over the winter I’ve been meeting parts of myself who’ve lived hidden away in cold, dark corners of my subconscious – parts that were scared, alone, and forgotten. Tending to them has felt like breaking apart in the best way. Messy and uncomfortable? Yes. But necessary. And now, something new has emerged.
I feel a rebirth, a renewal. I feel more me than I’ve ever felt before.
My life feels like it’s becoming a clearer reflection of who I truly am. My work feels more aligned with my spirit and my purpose than ever before. It’s like my soul and I are finally on the same page and we’re not fighting anymore. Even the inner parts that used to resist everything are starting to settle. There’s still healing to do, of course (there always is) but I feel stronger, more grounded, and more powerful.
Apparently, inner work is worth it.
There’s Still A Lot of Magic and Sweetness to Enjoy
Finding myself in the pages of my art journal and listening to the moon has been a magical, messy, beautiful path and I’m so deeply grateful for it. And don’t get me wrong, life is still full of spit and shit (thank you world politics for the daily reminders of that), but even still, there’s so much sweetness and magic to hold too.
I want to step into spring with my heart wide open in gratitude for all of it.
I love the energy of spring. I LOVE the freshness, the boldness and the beginning of a new cycle. And I especially love the way I can feel the power of the sun returning.
In the northern hemisphere, the spring equinox marks the turning point. The light is growing stronger, day by day. The Sun is building in energy as we move toward the summer solstice, when it will reach its peak in June. In earth-based spirituality, this rise of the sun is a sacred time of life, vitality, growth, and personal power. The Sun is our inner fire, our spirit and our soul. It represents our will, our purpose, our clarity, and our creative force. As it grows stronger in the sky, we are invited to grow stronger within ourselves and to step forward, take up space, and let ourselves shine.
Time to Shine Your Light in The World
In recent years, I’ve started working with this sun magic in powerful ways in my art journal. Last year, I created the 30-Day Shine Your Light Activation, where I painted a sun every day for 30 days while working with the MAP Method and my spirit allies to clear what was blocking me from truly being seen. It was life-changing (as most spiritual journeys are).
That art ritual gave me the courage to say yes to shining my light and now here I am, doing just that.
This year, I’m using this vibrant season of return and renewal to launch The Creative Witch’s Guide to Growing Your Business with the Moon and Stars. It’s a printed monthly guidebook that I’m going to old-school mail out for highly sensitive entrepreneurs who want to grow their business in a way that’s intuitive, emotionally supportive, and spiritually aligned. It blends moon magic, art rituals, and astrology-based planning in a way that’s both magical and practical and I can’t wait to show it to you.
But before that, I just want to pause and celebrate this moment. To look around and say: I did it!
I said yes to my light, and now I’m living into that yes. And as much as I’ve loved working with the moon in my art journal for the last fifteen years, I’ve really come to love working with the sun too. So, let’s do that this week, together okay? Let’s honor the spring equinox and the return of the sun by celebrating your light in your art journal.
Create an Altar to the Sun in Your Art Journal
Here’s a simple way to do that:
Create an altar to the sun and to your inner light in your art journal.
Treat the page like sacred space. You might draw or collage a big, radiant sun at the center. Around it, place symbols of what lights you up—flowers, gold foil, flames, honey, oranges, suns, stars, vibrant tones, or photos that represent joy, vitality, and growth.
Write down things you love about yourself. Celebrate all the things you love about life and who you are becoming. Add cheesy affirmations like, “I am the light I’ve been waiting for.”
You can even write a letter to your inner sun, your core self or your soul or the part of you that’s here to lead, to inspire, and to bring warmth to the world.
Let this be a devotional practice. A celebration of your light. A sacred honoring of the fire that burns within you. Then keep your art journal open to this page this week on your physical altar if you have one.
As the sun rises higher in the sky, may you rise with it.
Let this season be a new beginning. Let it be bright. Let it be bold. Let it be YOU.

Monday
The week kicks off with the moon in the sign of Scorpio having a tense relationship with the planet Pluto on Monday.
When the moon is in Scorpio, the emotional and spiritual energy runs deep. It’s not surface-level or light. It pulls you into the hidden layers of your heart and psyche. This is the moon that helps you feel what’s underneath everything – the fears, the desires, the grief, the truth you don’t always say out loud. Scorpio is about transformation, release, and emotional honesty, and when the moon moves through this sign, it can stir big feelings or bring up things you thought you had already dealt with. It’s powerful, intense, and deeply healing if you’re willing to go there with yourself.
Right now, the moon is also in a tense relationship with Pluto, which adds even more intensity. Pluto is the planet of deep transformation, power, and the shadow so this kind of tension can feel emotionally charged. It might stir up control issues, old wounds, or parts of you that are afraid to let go. But it’s not here to punish you. It’s here to help you shed old skins. This is an invitation to look honestly at what’s been hidden, repressed, or unspoken, and to begin letting go of what no longer serves your growth.
In your art journal, write a letter to a part of you that lost power for one reason or another. What does that part of you need now? What would it look like to reclaim your power here?
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents you reclaiming your power in some way.
Tuesday
On Tuesday, the moon is in Scorpio and having a happy relationship with Mars.
When the moon is in Scorpio, your feelings run deep. This is emotional energy that lives in your bones and blood. It’s not always easy to name, but you can feel it in your body. It’s the grief you haven’t cried, the truth you haven’t said out loud, the desire you’ve kept tucked away, the anger that simmers under the surface. Scorpio helps you get honest with yourself about what’s really going on inside. And when the moon is in a happy, supportive relationship with Mars, like it is now, it gives you the courage and strength to take action on whatever those deep feelings are trying to tell you. This isn’t about reacting impulsively. It’s about moving with clarity, grounded in your emotional truth.
This is a powerful moment to open your art journal and ask yourself: What do I feel so deeply that it’s time to act on it?
Maybe you feel ready to set a boundary, speak your truth, make a decision, or finally let something go. Maybe there’s a longing or passion inside you that you’ve been ignoring, and now it’s time to take one small step toward it. Taking action on a feeling means honoring it instead of pushing it down. It means letting your emotions inform your choices in a conscious, empowered way.
In your art journal, try creating an image that expresses the energy of that feeling. Maybe you create something raw and honest. Then add words or symbols that show what action you’re being called to take, even if it’s just the first brave step. This is how healing moves forward – through feeling, through courage, and through honoring what your heart already knows.
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents a feeling you’re ready to honor.
Wednesday
On Wednesday, the moon moves into the sign of Sagittarius.
Sagittarius is ruled by the planet Jupiter so it’s carrying a little of that planet’s good energy as well.
Sagittarius is a fire sign. It is expressive and positive and humorous, optimistic, adventurous, experimental, adaptive, passionate and fun but it can be focused on too many things. Sagittarius energy likes to help us grow and enjoy ourselves through experiencing all life has to offer. It focuses on personal growth, freedom, expansion, lived experience, learning through trying and doing and embodiment. It’s a curious energy that asks questions and looks for answers.
Let’s use this Sagittarius energy to think about the possibilities of the season of spring.
If this season could go better than you expected, what would that look and feel like? When you arrive at summer, what do you want to celebrate and be grateful for?
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents a possibility you imagine for yourself during the season of spring.
Thursday
The disseminating moon may be in the sign of Sagittarius but today the Sun moves into the sign of Aries.
When the Sun enters Aries, we step into a brand new season with the spring equinox. This is the beginning of the astrological new year and it marks a shift from the inward, reflective energy of winter into the bold, fresh energy of spring. Spiritually, it’s a time of renewal, courage, and taking the first steps toward what you truly want.
Aries is fiery, direct, and full of life. It doesn’t wait for permission, it moves forward with confidence and passion. Emotionally, you might feel more motivated, more ready to take action, and more in touch with the part of you that wants to shine and be seen. This is the energy of rebirth, of waking up after a long sleep and saying, I’m ready to begin again.
As I described above, one beautiful way to celebrate this moment in your art journal is to create an altar to the Sun and to your light. Think of your journal page as sacred space. Start by painting or drawing a bright, glowing sun in the center. This represents your energy, your confidence, and your purpose. Around it, include images, symbols, or words that reflect what it means for you to shine.
What do you love about yourself?
What gifts are you ready to share with the world?
What passions are burning inside you, asking to be expressed?
Use golds, oranges, reds, and yellows—or any color that makes you feel powerful and alive. This is your chance to honor your light and call it forward. Let this page be your declaration: I am here, and I’m ready to shine.
In your art journal, create an altar to the sun and to your light.
Friday
On Friday, the disseminating moon is in the sign of Sagittarius but having a tense relationship with the planets Neptune and Saturn.
When the moon is in the disseminating phase, it’s a time for sharing, teaching, and integrating what you’ve recently learned or experienced. In Sagittarius, this moon wants to expand emotionally, spiritually, and even creatively. It invites you to reconnect with your beliefs, your vision, and your desire for meaning. But with this particular moon making a tense square to both Saturn and Neptune, there’s likely to be a bit of friction. Saturn brings in feelings of limitation, pressure, or self-doubt, while Neptune can create confusion, fog, or idealism that feels hard to ground. You might find yourself caught between wanting to dream big and feeling blocked or uncertain about how to make those dreams real. Emotionally, this can feel like being pulled in different directions. A little like feeling hopeful one moment and discouraged the next.
To work with this energy in your art journal, give yourself permission to hold both the dream and the doubt.
A beautiful prompt for today is: “What belief wants to guide me forward, and what fear is holding me back?”
On one side of the page, let yourself explore your vision. Consider what you long for, what lights you up and what you want to share or express. Use colors, symbols, or words that feel expansive and inspiring.
On the other side, give space to the doubts, the confusion, or the heaviness that Saturn and Neptune might be stirring. Let it all exist in your journal without judgment. This is a moment for honest reflection. You don’t need to worry about trying to fix anything. It’s more about simply witnessing the complexity of your inner world. You are allowed to dream and feel uncertain. You are allowed to move forward even if the path isn’t clear yet.
In your art journal, on one side explore a dream you are moving towards in your life. On the other page, explore any doubt, confusion or heaviness that might be stirring.
Saturday
On Saturday, the last quarter moon is in the sign of Capricorn but it’s also having a tense relationship with Neptune, Venus and Mercury.
When the moon is in its last quarter phase, it’s a time for reflection, release, and wrapping things up. It’s when you’re invited to look back at the last few weeks and get honest about what’s working, what’s not, and what you’re ready to let go of. With the moon in Capricorn, that energy is serious, grounded, and focused on responsibility, structure, and long-term goals.
But this moon is also in a tense relationship with Neptune, Venus, and Mercury, which can stir up confusion, emotional sensitivity, and miscommunication. You might feel torn between what you think you should be doing and what your heart or intuition is trying to tell you. It can feel a bit like having fog in your mind while also feeling pressure to make decisions or “get it together.”
To work with this energy in your art journal, try this prompt: “What outdated expectation or pressure am I ready to release so I can move forward with more clarity and truth?” Start by writing down some of the voices in your head that are weighing you down. Try to compassionately be with those “shoulds” or perfectionist beliefs. Then, gently invite your deeper self to speak.
What does your heart actually need?
What kind of structure supports you, not just the version of you that tries to please others or keep everything under control?
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage images that represent giving your heart what it needs.
Sunday
On Sunday, the moon is in the sign of Capricorn.
Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn so the moon is carrying a little of that planet’s energy as well.
Capricorn energy is pragmatic, deliberate, persistent, disciplined, and conservative. Capricorn energy can help you be practical and focused on actions that move you forward in your life. It can also help you consider the importance of the future and what you need to do now in order to create future experiences you want. It can also be emotionally restrained or reserved so you can feel less connected to your emotions or more likely to dismiss your emotional needs.
Let’s use this Capricorn energy to focus on strengthening your ability to be persistent and committed.
I want you to think about all the positive memories you have about being persistent.
When you look over your life, when were you truly committed to something?
How would persistent, practical actions help you reach your most important goal in your life right now?
In your art journal, draw, paint or collage an image that represents what you are willing to commit to.
